Hey folks, just joined today. Real nice site!! I have a 1985 Diplomat with a 1985 90hp Merc. I am looking to replace the decals on the sides of the stern and the rubber trim that runs around the topside in the stainless groove. Any ideas where i can track this stuff down? Are they still making original equipment replacements? Forgive my ignorance, i have not done a lot of research but am hoping u guys can save me the time. Also i am thinking of upgrading the motor to a new direct injection or 4 stroke (115 -150hp range) and am not real partial to any particular make. We have always had Mercs but i am hearing that Yamaha's and Honda's are receiving real good marks. The boat is rated up to 140hp, will it handle a 150? Thanks for your time, any advice will sure be appreciated. Billd

Welcome to the site. If you want orignal you can try calling the checkmate factory. As far as the logo on the stern I have a guy making custom decals for my motor right now. He has an ad on ebay that shows a checkmate logo. Anything you want he can do all he needs is a picture or if it is the same as mine he already has one. If you want more info I have his email and#. Good luck:bigthumb:

taz could you pm me with that info please? the decals on the sides of my starliner are in rough shape , rest of the boat is in great shape though. Anyways i was hoping to be able to replace them and try to keep as close to original as possible.

Thanks

Thanks for the info guys. I will try the factory first and see what i can come up with. Anyone have any feedback on my motor situation. I just found a 1999 130hp Yamaha with real low time for $3500 with controls. Seems like a real fair price to me. ???? Anyways thanks again for the info.

Welcome abord mate:cheers
The rubber trim you mentioned is called a rubrail
I think you can get em from checkmate still.;)
Grab that yamaha if you still can because that is a good deal.
As far as, can your boat handel a 150? it definitely can, but its more of a matter of, can the driver handel the boat with the 150. These little boats chine walk at high speeds if not dialed in properly.
stay away from the four strokes. Look at Evinrude E TEC. If I were to buy a new motor, it would definitely be an e tec.
Good luck:surf: :surf:

Welcome to the board and the obsession. Sounds like a good price on the yammy. I would get compression numbers on all the cylinders and have the lower unit pressure tested.
