DAVE NICE BOAT
WHAT ARE YOU RUNNING FOR MOTOR /PROP SELECTION AND WHAT KIND OF MPH DO YOU SEE ?

Enforcer 24
03-01-2004, 01:01 PM
Thanks cobra. http://checkmate-boats.com/6/ws/,s,8626072361/Graemlins/thumb.gif I run a 350 Mag w/ Alpha 1 drive and a Mirage 21 pitch 3 blade. With about a foot and a half chop on GPS the boat runs around 56 mph at 5200 RPM. Thinking about going to a four blade but not sure on pitch to get me to 60-62 MPH. That speed is also with about 1/2 tank of gas and two people in boat.

THANKS FOR THE INFO DAVE
I ALSO HAVE A 21 PITCH BUT SPINELLI MANUFACTURED IT BUT MY RPM WONT GO OVER 4400 SO I CAN ONLY GET 50 ON GPS.WHEN I CONTACTED THEM OVER AT CHECKMATE THERE FILES INDICATED A 20 PITCH AND ABOUT 55 MPH SHOULD BE SEEN. THEY SUGGESTED TO ME A 19 PITCH MIRAGE AS THAT WILL INCREASE MY RPM TO AROUND 4800.IS YOUR MOTOR ALL STOCK ?

Enforcer 24
03-01-2004, 08:57 PM
As far as I know the motor is stock. The boat has very low hours so maybe a lot of performance is still "in it." Only a dyno would tell me other wise and I actually would like to find one local. (in NY)

Eriktheviking
03-04-2004, 09:16 AM
A 22 Turbo (3 blade) would work nice for you Enforcer 24.5200 rpm's is a little high, should be around 4800.Probably won't see much change in speed. You'll have to build up that motor to get better speeds.Thats a lot of boat for a 260hp engine.I get 70mph (speedo) out of mine with 330 hp.

Enforcer 24
03-04-2004, 09:54 PM
THANKS FOR THE INPUT ERIK. WILL A 22 PITCH GIVE A BETTER HOLESHOT AND DROP THE RPM? IS 5200 OVER THE POWER BAND? THIS IS THE BIGGEST BOAT I HAVE OWNED TO DATE. (VIP 185 W/302 I/O AND 20.5 CUDDY W/ ANEMIC 4 SILLYENDER--BOTH STOCK STEEL PROPED) I WAS THINKING ABOUT A 4 BLADE BUT NOT SURE WHAT PITCH I HAVE TO RUN FOR THE EXTRA BLADE. I HEAR YOU CAN GET A BIT OF A BETTER HOLESHOT BUT I DON'T HAVE $2000 TO SPEND ON PROPS TO "TRY OUT". IS TURBO A MANUFACTURER OF PROPS LIKE MIRAGE AND WOULD A 22 MIRAGE DO THE SAME THING?

Eriktheviking
03-05-2004, 09:29 AM
A 22 TURBO wouldn't help your holeshot any,It would just drop your top end rpm's down to 4900-5000.I've used one and it worked great for me.A 21 four blade would be interesting to try but I don't have any experience with them. The Mirage only comes in odd pitch sizes 19,21,23,etc. I believe your redline is 4800 rpm so you should stay around there.Other props that would be worth a try would be a 23 Laser II or if you have enough torque a 23 Mirage. The laser and turbo are a 14 1/4" diameter.Mirages are 14 1/2"diameter and require for torque which usually a Big Block set up has.

Enforcer 24

Thanks again Erik. I didn't realize Mirage props were a larger DIA. I will look into trying a Turbo 22 and Laser 23.

dave . lookin good ! has it been painted ? most were at least 2 tone . whats underneath on the running surface , it looks darker . is it discoloration from oneida ? if its been painted ,was it local talent ? and do you know who is doing the whacko paint work out there ? mine would have been painted by now if i had been able to find someone good enough (local). gelcoat has its merits , but is so frustrating .RISENSHINE !!!!!!

If you're looking for local paint talent, Ontario Boat repair redid the bottom on my brothers Cobra, They did a pretty good job. If you're looking for graphics and stripes, I swear by Ewing Lettering & Graphics, They are an awesome Sign shop and have done some fantastic work. Tom Ewing is a true artist and is just overflowing with talent, He loves to make stuff look cool. They are located in Farmington N.Y. Just an hour or so down the road from you guys. Check them out if your looking for something to set your boat apart from the crowd.

Thank you Chris for posting the "trailer queen pics." I love this site, it's great!!! http://checkmate-boats.com/6/ws/,s,8626072361/Graemlins/bounce.gif http://checkmate-boats.com/6/ws/,s,8626072361/Graemlins/thumb.gif Thanks Bob. The boat was painted about 5 years ago by the previous owner. I just bought it last year and this is how it was. The bottom, for some reason, is grey. The painter or previous owner didn't do the bottom for whatever reason. http://checkmate-boats.com/6/ws/,s,8626072361/Graemlins/jpshakehead.gif I am going to have it all painted probably next year. My buddy Jeff who owns JP Auto repair does some REALLY TRICK paint work! Not gel coat though. He just got done doing his 40' Excaliber and "WOW!" He is located in Syracuse. Shoot me your e-mail and the next time I go to his shop, I will take a few pics of his 40' and 32' Chriscraft. Myself though, this year, I am focusing on the interior upgrades (original 86 grey/black) and I can not afford to do both. It needs a floor anyway (which I cut out 2 days ago) so the interior has to be out too so I figured do it now. One hell of a job so far! The graphic on the side is a sticker. I am going to take off the blue colors and put on some kinda trick "CHECKMATE" decals so if your on Oneida Lake, the boat will look very similar to what it is now. Thanks for the compliments Bob and hope to see your boat soon. http://checkmate-boats.com/6/ws/,s,8626072361/Graemlins/thumb.gif Also, thanks for the info F150GT. I will look into Ewing letters and graphics for a decal kit. (cheaper than paint and looks good too.) Do they have a web site?

Dave,
Guy named Bob Warner at Propulsion Specialists has a dyno and is the best Merc mechanic around CNY. 315-437-8099 is the # and keep trying; he sometimes is hard to get in touch with this time of year. Shop is located on corner of Midler and Old Court st in Syracuse.

dave , not positive but i think your running surface is not painted because either the paint shop couldn't get it suspended to shoot it or was afraid the paint may peel going on or off the trailer . i don't think i would paint more than it is . if the running surface is gray ,, same color as speed coat. i've seen some race boats done that way..i would just try to get the bottom as clean as i could so there is not old crud to scrub speed . RISENSHINE !!!!!!

Enforcer 24
04-08-2004, 10:12 PM
Bob, the bottom is clean. The gel coat/paint on it though is not very smooth. Feels like undercoating for a car but, not that rough. I know I am loosing some speed but it is not speed that I am worried about. My boat is always on the trailer and I just want it to look.....good....even if I have to have it painted every 2 years. This is the only motorsport where it is OKAY to have a TRAILER QUEEN. http://checkmate-boats.com/6/ws/,s,8626072361/Graemlins/xxrotflmao.gif

Dave
Do you trailer your boat all the time or keep it in the water? I see the need for bottom paint, but hate the way it looks. I trailer my boat and if yours were mine I would have to pait the bottom.
My 2 cents

F150, My boat is always on the trailer that is why I want it painted. (bottom) The longest my boat stays in the water is 3 days...WEEKEND. I wash it off as soon as I pull it out Sunday to get the crap off of it. I hate dirty!!

dave , are we talking blisters on the bottom . common for boats thatsit / have sat in the water , gelcoat has more problems than a woman . also some good features , like a woman . one theory says they help you go faster by freeing up the bottom.

Enforcer 24
04-11-2004, 10:23 PM
You could say blisters. Looks like it was painted with a roller. There are small blisters on the sides of the boat whwer the water line is also. You can't see them unless you are right on top of them though. Next year, entire boat will be painted. Looks good enough for this year.

BOB'S 283
04-11-2004, 10:44 PM
enforcer.. you know what bottom paint is , dont you ? that goes on with a roller .... it will slow you down ,,, and you can take it off . the ones on the side , pimple size , are probably blisters , common for boats that sit/sat in the water.they're not the end of the world , but if you sand them then you need to drain them and fill them . and cobra said his yellow enforcer is painted below the waterline in case you missed that .and check your private messages

F150, the only reason I would put a "bug catcher" on my boat is for fresh air to the engine. I only have 2 17" vents to the engine and one is mainly for the bilge blower. Like I said, not really sure on the scoop, being stock power but am pretty sure it will be on. Looks great sitting there. Enforcer 24
05-05-2004, 10:34 PM
OH NO BOB, NO SKIMPING, or short cuts. Every single flaw in the entire boat is being filled. As far as layout, you will all see as soon as I know! 2 stage (of course) and still undecided about colors. What do you guys think for colors. Would love to hear some sugestions.

your buddy is shooting and you are the grunt ? if so that is a great deal . been there done that (grunt). depends a lot on everyones ability (tape off) and your tasts . either way a hard decision . i never stop looking for that perfect paint job myself that i could borrow .however paint just keeps getting pushed further down on "the list" . my favorite colors so far are on the snap on racing decal ,,,,,all the basics ,,,,,

Enforcer 24
05-06-2004, 02:03 AM
Going w/ basic paint. And yes, I am "the grunt" Only thing it will cost is materials. I do have some body work under my belt so that ia no problem. I am not comfortable painting though. Afraid I might get a hanger or ten and have even MORE work cut out to do! I am going to advertise JP's shop for the free labor for him to paint my boat. He is doing all final sanding (of poly-putty) and paint, however, I must prep boat for paint, sand for clear and sand for final buff. In a nut shell, I will have done the entire boat EXCEPT FOR final fill sanding and applying paint. The 40' (his) still needs some work so that is our trade off.

Enforcer 24
05-19-2004, 11:31 PM
Well, I might have said nothing radical, man how your outlook changes!! It will still be nothing to write home about but, I was going to paint the boat like Erik's Enforcer but a different color. Well, I threw that TOTALLY out the window! The pre-lim is all ready in place. Check back in a few weeks for final pics.

Ing, been away for a while man but for your ? on weight, I have no clue. Trailer is registered for 4500 lbs. Trailer probably weighs 1200-1400. I have never seen an outboard Enforcer in person on the lake I run but then again, this year I see a ton of Checkmates on the water so maybe, I might this year. Bob, interior is almost done. Front seats are done, along w/ sun deck. Waiting on rear seat. Boat is based white inside and out. Just having to save up a few more coins for color. Reason being, lower half of drive has two cracks in it around output shaft and I would rather run white than run completely painted and smoke the drive and have a lawn orniment for the summer. I have a post in the buy and sell for a case w/o guts. Mine are all good. BOAT.....Break Out Another Thousand!! http://checkmate-boats.com/6/ws/,s,8626072361/Graemlins/brickwall.gif

Hey guys, finally got-r-done, at least enough to drive for the rest of the summer. First time out was Harbor Fest in Oswego. Never miss it!! Still have some interior finishing to do and have to wet sand and buff the boat but it can all wait untill fall. Graphics are going to wait also. It is hard to find something you like so all white is the way to go for now. I lost enough summer running this year already! Will send Chris some pics soon as I can get some good ones.

My oh my.......what has happned in two years guys? When they say having a baby changes everything, they mean EVERYTHING! I have been away for a while but am back. Boat is still all white, and not having graphics on it has kinda grown on me. Only thing I have really done is replace the stock rubber exhaust hose with stainless polished pipe and completed the cockpit. I used the boat 5 times last summer and only about 15 times the pevious summer. Now that baby is older, mama wants a cabin cruiser. Know what I say........ NO DEAL, I NEED A CONVINCOR!!!! (or a 330ZT) problem is, can't afford a new 330, or 280 so I guess the old Enforcer will have to do for now. Even the snowmobile has been neglected! Hopefully this summer I will get to change the drive oil more than once. We will see. To everyone who has posted to me and gave me some insight, thanks and hope you are still around.

I AM BACK!!!
