Hi fellow Checkmate boaters. I currently own a 1987 18 foot eluder outboard, running the original Mercury 175. I have only had to rebuild the bench seat and replace the ski locker cover other than mormal maintenance in my many years of boating with this boat. We live in southern Maine so our season is shorter than I would like.

This is my third Checkmate, the first a 1975 17 foot bowrider with a straight 6 Mercury 115 outboard that I owned in high school in southern Florida.
I had a 18 foot IO bowrider with a 185 Mercruiser for a few years before my current boat - but I had to get back to outboard for the hole shot for pulling up skiers.

Love the boats. I don't think that the brochure that is on the site labeled as 1975 is a 1975 brochure though. I was a senior in high school then and I was broadsided by a fool running wild in a 20 foot jetboat on the intracoastal waterway just south of Fort Lauderdale. That was the end of a 15 foot boat I had with an 85 merc and the beginning of my Checkmates.. Anyhow, as I recall the brochure and slogan that year was Checkmate - The Hot Boat... Not the family boat... I'll see if I have any of that information in my files anywhere..

May 6, 2006 itching to get out on the water.. just broght my boat home from storage last week.

Hi fellow boaters! I'm Wildwaterdog and a speed junkie from fast cars to fast boats. Had 2 '88 Porsche 911s and they were a thrill but now looking for speed on water thrills. Was first looking at Allison Grandsports and Hydros but want more room. Heard alot of great things about Checkmates and am here to learn from you folks. Just sold a '94 Baja 454ci I had for 2 years. Got 67mph but want more speed. Been talking to Randy of Checkmates/Liberators of FL. Nice fellow! Glad to be a part of the forum! :)
