Is foam a newer thing in these boats? I have searched these forums for a couple of day, and have yet to find a detailed outline. The reason I ask; I'm going to pick up my 1st Checkmate today. 1975 not sure of the model, though it is a bow rider. The person I am buing it from has cut a 10"x10" hole in the floor to inspect the stringer. When you look in this hole no foam. I'm going to have to replace all of the seats, and the carbs are pulled off. It has a Merc 1150 stacked 6. From what I saw of the transom it looks fine, and I can't really hear a difference in tone while knocking on it from inside or out. It's a project, but I'm only giving 500 for it. I'd also like to know how thick the floor shouldbe, or if there is a detailed link on replacement of the floor.

Thanks,

kp

Being that old, it may not have foam under the flooring. In fact, you may not even have balsa coring! The good news is, you won't have to deal with as much re-work :)

Some floors are 3/8" plywood, most are 1/2" plywood with a layer of glass on top of it Alan H.

I have a 1977 TRV-17 and mine had very little foam. It did have a balsa core. I bought my project for $600 with a running engine. :thumb: Check out this thread: http://checkmate-boats.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3343&highlight=trv-17

Once again, ALL Checkmates had balsa cored bottoms.

My 75 trimate 2 had very little foam in the bottom. What was there was very wet. Core was still in great shape . They did not fool around when they enclosed it in glass.
