OK guys, I have 4 boats and hope I don't regret this...but I decided to put my mint little C'Mate up for grabs and keep looking for a clean 21'er to come along before summer... Here it is:

1989 Checkmate Spectra 170 open bow with original Merc 150HP-XR motor. This thing is near immaculate inside and out. The boat exterior, interior, and motor are super super clean!!! This is a fresh water Michigan boat that was garage kept and used only a few weekends a year. Motor looks and runs like new...tests 125psi on all 6 cylinders cold! Boat is white with blue stripes and red accents (no metal flake)...has matching white interior with blue & red accects (see photos). This boat will seat 7 adults (rated for 8), has the lift-out center windsheild section, a 29 gallon fuel tank (that sould last a while), 3 gallon oil injection tank, dual ride-guide steering system, tons of in-boat storage, the factory rear boarding ladder, and a completely new marine stereo system (installed summer 2003). I planned on keeping this thing, so I bought a brand new marine battery, brand new full cover, and a brand new 21p ski prop. This boat is very clean, turn-key, and water ready! It is sitting on the original Shorelander trailer - newer tires, bearing buddies, ect.(but could use paint to be mint). This is a $7500+ package in the spring with the trailer redone. Checkmate forus members...first $6500 cash takes it (US funds) firm. I am located in Livonia, Michigan (SE lower Michigan area between Ann Arbor & Detroit). Thanks, Jim.

"Check" it out...First $6500 cash gets it!!!

Neighbor is still interested Jim, can you give the year for the XR2, or do you know the serial number?
Thanks!

This boat looks like it just spent the winter at the factory getting the full resto treatment.

And it's original!

Mint is an understatement! http://www.checkmate-boats.com/6/ws/,s,8626072361/Graemlins/thumb.gif

Chris...Thanks for the comments..It is VERY clean! Like I said, I'd be supprised if it has 50 hours on it since new! http://www.checkmate-boats.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

JW...I was told this boat and motor where purchased NEW together back in 1989. I'm assuming the motor was new XR2 left-over crate 87-88 model? Serial # is B221627...It still looks new inside & out...tests 125psi on all 6 cold. Let me know what year it is and we'll post it too... http://www.checkmate-boats.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I've had 5 inquire (e-mail) about more info & photos but all from too far away... Great deal for $6500...get it before my "wife" changes my mind into keeping it. Thanks, Jim. http://www.checkmate-boats.com/6/ws/,s,8626072361/Graemlins/thumb.gif

I looked on Mercury Parts Express web site and it told me this:
MERCURY (2.0L)
Serial Number: 0B221627 Model Number: 1150766
but it didn't get me the year. NADA shows anywhere from 1985 to 1987 for the 2.0L XR2, with 1988 as the first year for the 2.4L XR4. So it's probably a leftover '87 but can't be sure. A boat dealer may be able to pinpoint it.

Thanks JW...I have the original owners manuals for the boat and motor as well... I couldn't find a motor year on it either. I assuming probably a leftover 87??? Reguardless, this motor looks "showroom new" under the covers (you could eat off it!), tests out as "like-new", runs "like-new" and looks "like-new". http://www.checkmate-boats.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Come check it out...you can't get any CLEANER than this BOAT or MOTOR!!! Jim. http://www.checkmate-boats.com/6/ws/,s,8626072361/Graemlins/thumb.gif

P.S...I also heard that 1988 was a change over year between the XR2 and XR4...so this could also be an early '88 motor (not that it really matters)...65 MPH with a 23p stainless... Jim.

For those interested in the history of their Merc outboards and stern drives, just ask!!!

This fella is a 1986 MERCURY 150XR2 ELPTO invoiced to the selling dealer in 1990 (that's a little odd), registered to the owner in august 1990. No warranty work has been done to it. Was registered on a Spectra. Info from Mercury's dealer website - membership has it's privlages.

Thanks Chris E... YOU ARE A GREAT "LINK" FOR ANYONE PURCHASING A USED BOAT (like BOATFAX)!!!

YES... I was told the boat was purchased "new" in 1990... Thanks for the info...seams that Mercury sold some NEW left-over motors (apparently it's a fairly common thing with boat motors, motorcycles, snowmobiles, personal watercrafts, etc. on left-over inventory)...
Anyway, this boat/motor/trailer package all arrived as all NEW in Aug. of 1990 (even though the boat is an '89). None the less...the boat & motor looks like it has 50 HOURS on it since NEW...no kidding!!! It was garage kept, fresh water boat...NEW full cover, marine battery, and 21p ski-prop...all 100% water ready & clear title. Bring $6500 cash & go Checkmating that same day! Absolutely NO disappointments!!! http://www.checkmate-boats.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

P.S. Sorry guys, the price will go up on March 26th (It will be in BoatTrader for $7000)... http://checkmate-boats.com/6/ws/,s,8626072361/Graemlins/jpshakehead.gif

Steve...that be a "hell-of-a-road-trip" for someone interestd in mine in Michigan to see your in Florida!!! These little spectras are great boats... sure the heck beats spending $20,000 on one of those "jet bath tubs" that goes 50mph and uses 4 times the gallons per hour!

Great deal if your looking for a VERY CLEAN sharp looking Checkmate open bow, that will seat 7-8 people, will do 60+MPH, can be towed buy a mini-van (under 2000lbs), will fit in a standard garage, and is a great ski boat to take the family & friends out in... $6500! Call me........Jim.

OK guys... I had this 170 spectra in the water a second time and this thing is a great little boat!!! Runs flawless, smooth, powerful... I almost hate to sell it but I have 4 boats again (not including 3 PWC's, and two sail boats)... and I'm finishing up my 100+mph "boy toy" boat soon... Something has to leave the garage so I have space to work!!!
Forum members DEAL... WAS $6500...

Trailer just repainted in the dark royal blue to match the accent stripes on the hull... Man this thing looks great on or off the trailer now!!! http://checkmate-boats.com/6/ws/,s,8626072361/Graemlins/surf.gif

P.S. The XR2 motor is the factory "high-perf" unit... I have a the broucher on it: factory installed motor cover louvers, special exhaust, 6000rpm range, etc. This XR2 is the bass-boat "cheater" motor and probably is closer to 175 (sure runs like it)! http://www.checkmate-boats.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

REALLY nice package deal ready for summer fun...for $6500 you can't beat it!! I have new photos available if you want to see it now... http://checkmate-boats.com/6/ws/,s,8626072361/Graemlins/thumb.gif

I SOLD MY SPECTRA 170 WITH AN XR2 A COUPLE WEEKS AGO. IN SEVEN YEARS THE ONLY THING I'VE EVER REPAIRED WAS A TRIM SOLENOID. OTHER THAN NORMAL MAINT. IT WAS A GREAT MOTOR, GREAT SOUNDING EXHAUST AND PUSHED MY SPECTRA TO 55 PLUS MPH ALL DAY LONG WITH A HI-FIVE PROP.
