Hey guys. I have an 82 Enchanter with an 83 200 Black Max...5 and a half inch jack plate...Bob's nose cone...23p Mirage prop. Prop shaft is about 2 inches below the pad. Just hit 70 GPS with me and g/f...about one third tank of fuel...no chine walk at all...very steady. I still have to run the trim up some to get the bow up. Would love to see if I can get rid of the trim. Should I go higher on the plate? When I went from 3 inches to 2 inches I got rid of my chine walk problem and didn't need as much trim. Or should I try a set back plate? Was thinking maybe 2 inches on that. I should be happy but if there is an extra mph or two why not...right? Mark
What gear ratio are you running? 70 MPH with a 23" prop and a 23 year old 200? I'd say you already got it all!

the added setback should help get the bow up easier

Thanks for the reply's guys. Mark...I'm not sure what the ratio is. The tachometer hit 5900. I'm wondering if I should try a larger pitch prop sometime to get the rpm's down a little. You are right when you said that it looks like I have all that it will give. But I may try the spacers just because.
A standard LU for a 200 Merc has a 1.87 gear ratio. Meaning the engine turns 1.87 times for every turn of the prop. If you plug the numbers into the prop calculator http://www.go-fast.com/Prop_Slip_Calculator.htm 69 mph would be 0% slip. (If your LU is a 1.75 or 1.62 Sportsmaster then its a different story) Usually 5-10% is as good as you will get out of a Checkmate. That is why I made the comment, if you are really running 70 gps, then you've got it all.

You can get more out of an Enchanter with a 200hp, I,d look for some bigger props to try and more set back with increased engine height will help reduce your trim angle. The Enchanters are a very efficent hull with its pad keel, I am getting 74 with my Enchanter with a Pro-V 200 Yamaha and a 25 pitch 3 blade. I have 10" of set back, 4.5" blocks and 5.5" CMC power jack plate, depending on the prop I can run anywere between 2" to .5" prop shaft below the pad.

I'm going to try the setback spacers first. I would like to try a 25 pitch prop sometime just to ease up on the top rpm's a little.
