Come on fellow WI boaters ! Some one buy one so I can try it out. That looks awesome. I can only imagine the diggers you could take. It's like having a tube and parasail all in one !:thumb:

Looks like you have to do about 60mph to really get it flying.

I almost bought one on sale the other day but decided to do a little research. These things are not worth the risk to life and limb. Read it and weep. http://boards.trailerboats.com/cgi-bin/trailerboats/ubb/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=9;t=000258

Common sense seems to play a huge factor. In all their ads and videos they state speeds of 28-30 mph. Driver, spotter and rider have to be on the same page. Driver has a lot to do with riders flight. Driver must work throttle. There must be good communication. Rider is also responsible for some accidents. Gusty winds could also cause some crashes.

I feel most of these accidents were probably caused by lack of common sense by either driver, spotter or rider. Some one with little experience being in the wrong place. You're not going to purchase this and next day be doing what they do in the videos. The videos I watched had warnings scolling across the screen and I'm sure the tube, package and instructions have warnings all over it. It's obvious in the correct hands this tube can be a blast but in the incorrect hands it can be deadly.(that holds true for many things cars, trucks, motorcycles, guns, boats etc.) People must educate themselves before applying themselves.

Alright I'm done ranting. It did seem that some people had some very good experiences. One guy actually modified his to accept two tow ropes giving it a much safer ride ?!:bigthumb:

There is a good discussion going on over on Scream.

I thought the lawn darts analogy that someone made was pretty appropriate.

If you want one of these things I'd get one now as I doubt they'll be around long.

We saw one on Lake Mendota last weekend. The guy got it up in the air a little bit but I don't think the boat was going fast enough to get the big air like the video....

My buddy was telling me they had a little news report on the flying tubes and they basically said they're being banned. Supposedly they more or less said put it back in the box and take it back for a refund. I'll have to ask him where the news report originated from.

A co-worker told me before I went on vacation that he was at his in-laws lake place and saw one of these or one simmilar to it it was about 15' - 20' high and it caught a wind currernt, flipped it upside down and slammed it to the water. No major injuries but really shook up a bunch of people.

I think one could find plenty of things around the house that he or she could get hurt with just fine. I don't think they need to go out and spend 500 bucks for a crazy water toy to get hurt with. Hell step on a rake, hit your finger with a hammer or fall off a step ladder. That will do the job and won't cost a thing. It's cool that's for sure but I'm not going to try it. 20 years ago I may have given it a try but no way now man.

Old thread but I had to reply. I have one of these things ($400 Overton's) and it's very cool. Once you get it off the water a foot or two throtle back or it will take off and keep taking off. Falling from that height and speed (160lb guy you have to be doing over 45mph) is serious. I haven't towed anyone yet that I dislike enough to take the chance!
