Here are some shots of the sportfire in NY at the Rondak romp.
No GPS numbers yet, but it is much faster than my predictor was for sure, even with well over 200lbs of gas and 400lbs between Dave and myself. The 28p hoss triton spun at 5300rpm, propshaft about 1'' below the pad and 5.5'' setback. I think I need to try the 26 mazco and add more setback.
Holeshot was best with a little pos trim and with the motor as high up as it could go.

Nice pictures!!! Its funny, when I drove that boat I thought it felt way lighter than my predictor. I think it is definately a faster hull. I think the 26 will work great for you. Lets see some action shots!!!

Yeah I think its definitely a more efficiant hull than the predictor. I have a quick video of the sportfire running with the 28 and you can definitely hear the RPMs. I couldnt get any action shots because the lake was flooded and I couldnt drop off my buddy anywhere. I think Maureen and some of the boys from S&F got some pics of it flying though, Ill ask them.
Tomorrow if the weather is nice I am going to try some more props and Ill be sure to get some aired out pics:surf:

Thanx.
Didnt get to try the props yet but found the sweet spot with the 28 and spun it to 5400rpm...still not enough.
I would have liked to get some better shots, but there was a homeless drunk on the dock fishing and he kept bothering me.

man i bet a 26 would rocket out of the hole and net a higher top end. i have yet to run my 28. i still have to get my water pressure guage and stuff all set up.
when your plate is all the way up, where is the prop shaft?

Right now its about an inch and a half or so below the pad, I havent measured it though.
I dont have a water pressure yet either so I try not to run it high for more than a few seconds at a time. I know its not a good Idea to run without it, I am really carefull when I do.
I think I need to go up one bolt on the JP and add a couple more inches setback. I still have a manual two piece JP that I am thinking about throwing on but I dont know if its worth the stress on the transom...any thoughts on that?

Love the pictures. The flake looks sweet. My dad called me tonight. He said he drove by David's house in Sanford and he has another red sportfire now. We'll see if it shows up for sale.

geoff, i would try a 26 on it first before you go changing anything. i think that will be a BIG difference.

Ive been told that a 24 chopper would actually be better than a 26. I ran a crapy "through hub" 25 stainless and it was awfull.
anyone know anything about the 24 vs the 26?

24 chopper
What Ive been told is that if the boat were say a 500lb hull instead of an 900lb hull than that motor could spin the 28 past 6000rpm.
Im thinking that since it is a fairly heavy boat I should drop to a 24 chopper to really get the RPMs up. The motor has a lightweight flywheel so it should rev to 7k or more. I dont think that the 24 would rev past max hp and I might be able to squeeze a few more mph...I know I am running fairly close to 80 because I hung with an intimidator and a Vegas that each did 80 gps. they had a bit more top end though.

you have to run a gps. you will not get close to 80 with the numbers you have posted. you need a 1000 more rpms to hit 80 with that 28P if you have 1.87 gears.
are you certain that 2.5 is pushing 200+?
Boston Predictor
06-15-2006, 10:52 PM
yes for sure no doubt about it. almost everything imagineable has been done to that motor. The compression alone is 150 across. The gears are not stock. I know I wont hit 80 with the 28 unless I get the rpms up but I was thinking a 24 or 26 would actually be better for top end because max hp is around 7 K rpm.
when I get some more cash Ill get a GPS, I was saving up for something real nice but I might as well get the $90 garmin. my motor is definitely pushing 200+ and I know for sure that I am running in the 70's with the 28.
I want to raise the motor up some more because I know it is too deep. That is part of why my rpms are so low

I just traded my 28 chopper for a 26 hoss triton.
The funny thing is the 28 had much better holeshot. The 26 doesnt want to catch at all. I tried a few diffrent posistions with the JP and trim, but It is not what I expected. top end seems a bit slower too.
The 26 spins over 6500 but feels slower than my 28 did at 5600rpm. I really should have bought a handheld GPS to compare.
Overall the 26 is much better. I can cruise at a higher speed at a lower RPM, there is less slip at low RPMs. I can go from 2500rpm to 6500 in a two seconds and man can you feel the diffrence there. its like night and day.
I still have a 26 Mazco at the shop I need to try. I am not doing any more prop testing untill I get a GPS

Not yet.
What is your 2.4? a 200, 245??
you should post some more specs/pics here. we need to represent the sportfire. Im looking for a 2.4 Bridgeport for my boat, or maybe a promax...
Check out Tazfinz boat, its the same boat but blue.
BTW whats a rapid jack? a jackplate? I'm running the motor pretty high as is, I think going up one more hole would be ideal though.

I personally would go with a 383, make sure you have a good mechanic go through it Keep us posted on your progress.

Great lookin boat Boston, I think if you can lift the motor up as high as two inches or so below the pad , with a 28pitch if you can turn six grand you'll get 80 out of it.

To be honest I think Ive already hit 80mph at some point. It seems to run alot faster in the ocean especially when its calm and I can ride the swells, and i now know that my tach was broken so my rmps were off.
Check out my videos and you can hear it rev really high with the 28. the rpms just keep comming until the wind makes me chine walk:surf:
