View Full Version : Floor Paint options???
I'm getting ready to paint the floor on a MX13 that I've been restoring. The previous owner had ratty old carpeting that I pulled out. (Nothing like scraping and sanding old carpet glue in 90 degree heat.)
What are my options on painting the floor? What experiences have you guys had with different products?
I've did several white gel/ speckle paints on floors and engine bays in the past. It looks nice when new but seems to dull and stain as it ages.
A few guys on SF have used Awe Grip? I'm leaning towads this product because: 1- It's pretty thick and will fill voids and imperfections. 2- It looks to have a real bright glossy shine.
Any help?
Thanks- SCT
I wonder if Rhino Liner would stick to fiberglassed wood? Comes in a few colors, wears like iron......................
Brother Jim,
That might be a possibility. I know Cmate did a Rhino Liner floor per customer request on a 25 or 28. I think it would be a little expensive for my project, though.
I'm trying to figure out what the paint/ gel you see on the big $$ I/O engine bays that is real glossy white. Any ideas?
SCT
I think some do Imron, and never ever get it dirty or walk on it.
We've had to repaint our hangar floors from bright white to a light medium gray now, because it hides the stains better. How about a porch and floor enamel in light gray? Then splatter in some red/purple/blue/yellow spatters?

Here is what I have done before. Take some epoxy resin and mix in some cabosil and some micro balloons, and make a nice putty. Spread this over the weave pattern in the fiber glass and when that is set sand it smooth. This will fill in the weave pattern of the glass. Then paint with Awlgrip and it should look almost as smooth and shiney as the outside of the boat.

Wouldn't this make the floor so slippery, you couldn't walk on it? I want to paint my floor too as the carpet get's too messed up in my sandy salty environment, I did an old boat once with regular marine paint mixed with non skid additive (looked like fine sand) this worked very well and didn't wear....
That's what the micro ballons are for, non-skid.

The other alternative, although somewhat expensive, is Pirelli Flooring. Cut it to size (don't make a mistake cause it'll cost ya) and glue it down. It's what they use in most of the big Offshore boats. I've seen it in white and light grey. I'm sure it probably comes in other colors. I've also thought about the Rhino Liner idea. I'll be laying up two layers of 1708 over the floor of my Pulsare this week and then I have to decide how to dress it up.
