Hello, My name is Mike and I am currently in Maryland. I am considering buying a boat and at the moment looking at two Checkmates. First one is on ebay, a 1987 Enchanter with 350/OMC. I happen to like OMC. The problem is it needs motor replaced and interior. The other I havent seen and unsure of the year / model. My father is retired and lives in Kentucky and he found it. He said it was an open bow with maybe a strait 6 or 4 banger. I am not crazy about it bout he said it looked emaculent. Floor and transom are solid. The asking price is $2500. Any sugestions would be appreciated.

There are lots of boats around, so take your time and find the right one for you. It's pretty hard for any of us to put a value on older used boats. There are a number of variables that come into play that determine the price.

With any older boat, make sure you have it looked over by a pro so you don't end up with any surprises after the sale.

Take your time and look on all the "Boat Sales" web sites. Some of them will give you e-mails when you tell them what you're looking to buy. That's how I found my 88 Starflite. I got it three years ago from the original owner. I was sent a e-mail as soon as it was listed. It was never kept in the water, fresh water use 95% of the time, overnight and was towel dried after every use. Well not to go on and one but take a look at what I got, boat-motor-trailer, for $7500. People tell me "Nice New Checkmate" every time I take it out.
