Balsa core what shape?

I have small squares tacked together. If I replace it with strips, is that a disadvantage? Can I replace the little squares with strips and be okay? I gotta get this thing in the water!!

Just replace what you need to make sure it's bonded well and everything should be ok..

The only reason they are cut into squares, is so you can make a compound curve with the balsa. The strips where meant to only curve in one direction. Make sure you remove all rot, and get a good bond to the hull and old balsa.
