I recently bought a 2006 Pulsare 2000BR with a 200 Mercury EFI. This is the first boat (outboard) I have owned with hydraulic steering. The question I have is about the orientation of the steering wheel. It seems to move at higher speed & now has moved completey. When the boat is on the trailer & motor pointing straight, the steering wheel was always right where it should be. I have noticed that at speeds above 60 mph the steering wheel will be at least 180 degrees off when going straight, but then would be right on when I got back on the trailer. Now when the boat is on the trailer and motor pointing straight, the steering wheel is off by about 180 degrees. What gives???

With the Sea Star sterring the wheel orientation will wander. Nature of the beast nothing you can do about it. That is why the blinker style trim is utilized for those who want trim on/near the wheel with these hydraulic systems. If you used the corded trim it would eventually be ripped off the wheel and a big tangled mess.

You are essentially operating a manual hydraulic pump. I suspect this is why the wheel is orientated differently when under way (60MPH) because you need to develop pressure to counteract the torque.

I have the bay star system and the wheel is never in the same place as well. I was told that it was going to be like that and I never pay much attention to it.

hard to find this online.
Scroll down to "SeaStar Installation Books
then select SeaStar Outbaord, PDF file# 296784

Read the "Warning" and "Notice" section of the introduction.

Thanks for the info. Like I said this is my first outboard with power steering. I feel better now. I was a little worried something was going to come apart at 65+ mph!
