Hi, I am writing on here cuz I always see my husband on here and I thought it would be kind of fun to write something without him knowing it. Of course he is out in the garage messing with the boat right now like always! I don't know anything about motors and trims and props?????????????? BUT I do know I love our checkmate! We go out with our family (2 kid's 10 months old and 6 years old) all the time practically one to two times in a weekend.Sometimes throughout the week too. We sometimes go with a destination like somewhere for lunch or we just beach it! When we beach it though our baby loves to eat the sand! If anyone else has that problem let me know it's not exactly a mechanical problem but maybe somewhere out there has to deal with the same thing? We mostly go on the Mississippi river and occasionally on the Mark Twain Lake. We may go to Lake Norfork before the summer is over. Our daughter the six year old loves going on the boat and going fast. Her and my husband just went out Sunday together while I spent the day with our baby boy. Anyway our boat is pretty fast last I heard we go about 69 mph. Well should I say my husband goes that fast because we try not to go that fast with the kid's but sometimes you just can't help going a little fast you know if a Baja goes by and you know you can out run them! I don't mind that, it gets my adrenaline going I think just as much as his! Well I just wanted to talk about our checkmate too!!!!! I hope my husband does not mind that I got on here and chatted a bit. I think he will be fine about it as long as I keep up my duty and clean out the boat after we go out on it and before we go out on it! Ha Ha I just might chat again becuz it's kind of fun! See ya

Welcome to the board. :cheers I am sure I speak for all of us to say feel free to say hello whenever you want. I wish my wife enjoyed boating as much as you do. Fact is, she only comes out with me a few times a year. She cant take the engine noise, jumps or going fast. So, I tell her, I dont have to jump or run fast, but cant help her on the noise issue. As I always say, power means noise...

Eating sand eh? mine never did that but, i'm sure he will grow out of it, maybe he's jealous cuz you haven't let him drive yet - after all he is 10 months old, you can't hold hime back forever! Mine started driving at 18 months which i think is a little late, but we did have ice on the lake for 6 months so it couldn't be helped.
As an aside, if you have the room, throw the prota crib up and put him down for a nap, worked great for my oldest and my sister for that matter, as soon as the boat starts moving she's asleep and she's 34 yearrs old.

I think it is great to here from a wife! I grew up around boats and my son is five and he loves boats that is why I bought a checkmate to restore. Everytime I work on it he helps me. I think this helps to show him respect for things plus it gives us father son times. My wife swears that she is never going to step foot in the boat. I wish she would reconsider. I like to it when a whole family enjoys the boat.:thumb:

I'm at work and just noticed that my wife had posted in this site using my user ID. I guess she did it last night or something??? She's always wondering what I'm doing typing so much on the computer at night. I think she thinks I'm talking with some girls or something??!! It's great to hear all the support from the guys here, and I'm truly blessed to have such a beautiful and loving wife that enjoys the things I do. She's the greatest!! After over 10 years of marriage it just keeps getting better.....and the boats just keep getting faster!!!(which is always better too!) Hi Chicken butt...

I think we just need to let that last comment go...........
Anyway, I wish my wife enjoyed the boat as much as me. She likes going out on the water, but she wants a majic pontoon. Majic because she wants it to be cheap, work perfectly every time, require no maintenance and load and unload itself in seconds. Anything past that and she's not happy.......

If my husband is reading this while at work you did not have too say that last part! I truly do enjoy the whole boating experience with my husband and children! It does not bother me that he has to have a fast boat and he has to spend lots of money on it! He always seems to find ways to get the money and never gets into our bill money! But it is kind of funny we are going on vacation soon and we have to save for that but if it was a supercharger he would magically come up with the money in a week! That's okay that's why I love him so much! Thanks for everyone's support and not getting upset that I want to talk sometimes!!!!!! This is to the other wifes out there, I would only hope that you's go out on the water with your husbands it is really great and sometimes a really good rush!!!!!!!!:o

I don't really think she gets a 'a rush' out of it, she's probably just trying to fit in a little more, but...I could be wrong:p ....Hey not to change the subject, but I would love to have our Convincor as the boat of the month on the front of this site...it would be a great honor. The only really most excellent picture of the boat in the water that I have is one with my wife suntanning on the bow. (She's fully clothed) Is that OK to enter for the boat of the month?

Well I owe an apoligy to my wife. I said that I didn't really think that she got a rush out of going fast and stuff like that and that she was just trying to fit in. I hurt her feelings...She does like to go fast and never has complained even with the two kids on board. I just didnt think it would get her adrinalin going like it does mine sometimes. So I'm sorry and I told her I would make it up to her tonight in the cuddy even if it is still on the trailer in the garage. I'm suprised to see how many other members wives don't go out on the boats....

It seems like the shots that usually win; are the pics of boats in the water and they are either moored in open water, or an action shot of some kind.

The only rush my wife gets from my boat is a rush to go home when we are out on it!!! I can not go fast with her. I have to promise her a 40 mph speed limit. Now you guys know Convincors, they ride like crap when you ride slow.
The only thing I will agree with her on is that the noise this thing makes is LOUD. Even with the GGB Extreme mufflers, full dry CMI's on a heavily worked up 540 is loud.
The only thing she hated more was when I would go out drag racing cars every weekend.

Vinny, What'd you do, start falling in love with speed after you got married or did you just keep it a big secret to her? You must have something greatly impressive about yourself for her to look aside from all those things she can't stand(speed and noise).:bigthumb:

Hey Vinny you and my husband have alot in common---speed and noise! He used to be into racing also until we got a family and then he did it for awhile but then we got into boating more of a family thing not much cheaper. I am just happy that my husband is here at home not at a bar spending money. I would much rather have him in the shed spending time on boats/cars/tractors and what ever else he can piddle on! I love to see the look on his face when he can improve the performance of something! He got so excited about the boat when he upped the speed by like 4 or 5 mph. I can understand about the noise on the boat it's probally not very enjoyable for your wife cuz if she sits in the back by the motor not only the noise but the wind that can get pretty loud I'm sure and you sound like your motor is really suped!! :bounce:

Mr bigsbetter,
She knew all about the speed addiction. I think she just thought it was a phase that would pass. Well, she was wrong. It only got worse. I always say, speed is a drug. Once your hooked on it, you can never stop. At least, she is happier with boats than when I was drag racing cars. I sold my whole operation in 1998. Then, I was hired as a crew member for a Comp Eliminator racer here in New York. In fact, I was the only crew member. The amount of work at the track was incredible for just 2 guys. Luckily for me, I got into fast boats, the time at the track was cutting into my time on the water. The water won. I gave up drag racing for good. Now I only go to 1 or 2 races a year. I still go with the same racer, but as an extra. No responsibilities.
Mrs Bigsbetter,
I see you understand about the noise and wind. Yes, my engine is maxed out for a naturally aspirated ( ask mr big ) 540. I can run in the 80's with ease. I also never go out drinking. In fact, I dont drink at all. Never did, never will.
