I have a 1979 Checkmate Eluder with a 115 HP Envinrude motor. My top speed is only slightly of 40MPH in smooth water with just me in the boat. The boat has been completely redone so there is no more wet foam adding wieght. Should I expect a higher top speed? Although the motor is old ('79) the powerhead was rebuilt about 4 years ago.
Thanks!

What prop are you running? Rpm? Is there a jackplate? Where is the engine height. I would think it would run a bit faster.

First off, lets see some pictures!!! The Eluder is a cool boat.
The Eluder stright out of the factory weighed over 1,000 lbs. for the hull alone. Add fuel, gear, motor, and driver and thats some weight. If you are running a 115 with an aluminum prop and the motor is bolted dirrectly to the transom I would say thats about right. By changing the set up a bit, I am sure you could run faster than 40mph.

Well I don't have any good pictures yet. Hopefully I will be able to take some this weekend. As far as my set up I just have the motor bolted to the transom, no jackplate. Not sure about the heights of the motor or size of the prop. I will have to take some measurements. I should also mention the boat is bottom painted since I keep it in the water. Maybe 40mph isn't too bad considering the weight, set-up and bottom paint. Hopefull I'll have a newer 200 on there next year and go a little faster.

what kind of rpm are you turning
that motor is small for that boat i doubt you'll see much change
