trs drives

anybody got trs drives laying around in good shape.. looking for a right and a left drive... prefer not corroded all up.. to to worried about re building them.. as i can do that.. not looking for catostrophic cases or such.. just some decent stuff

I don't have any drives, but I am curious about these TRS drives. I don't know much about them. Are they some kind of a 2 speed transmission drive? How do they work? What are their advantages/disadvantages? I would appreciate some good details about this drive. What years were they used?

in a nutshell they were around before the bravo series drives, they are big, heavy, ugly and pretty much bulletproof. they were designed for offshore type boats and were used pretty much in anything 300hp and up. they had an external transmission to control the shifting and stuff. the big advantage over the trs drive for the bravo was the lack of tranny required, freeing up alot of space.

that is correct the trs was replaced by the bravo drive.. and a stout drive.. and the trannys are extreemly durable, and bullet proof as well, if taken care of.. a unique feature is your have a right hand and a left hand drive.. cases are getting tough to find.. but you can still get parts from mecury.. just no cases.. nla.. i think they give you a phone # to call... someone bought all mercs cases.. its also getting pretty tough to warranty these drives,, because of the expense... as far as i know you can still buy a complete lower, upper... and yada yada.. but with no warranty... for about 3 grand.. jasper engines sells just the lower for around 3800 bucks and they have a warranty...

how much is a set worth that are complete with trans but would need to be reconditioned? they are on a cris craft scorpion 83.

not to long ago a pair of trs drives, shields, and trannys went on ebay for 1900 bucks

What is the trans. part of the drive you are talking about? Is the TRS drive just a normal drive with a upper and lower case and forward and reverse? What ratio are they? Do they have the standard Mercruiser 15 spline prop shaft?

No shift in the drive, that was part of what made them so strong. Shifting was handled by an inboard type transmission inbetween the engine and transom plate, moving the engine foward and making for a long engine compartment.
The bravo eliminated the need for a seperate trans and shortend the engine compartments making more room in the cockpit.
#6 drive is a hopped up version of the trs drive.
To get the same in a bravo I believe is the blackhawk or xr drive
