My buddy just bought his first go-fast boat and is not getting the top end he had hoped. The boat is a 21 pulsair open bow with a 225 E-tec Evinrude. I believe that he is running the motor too deep (propshaft aprox 3 to 3 1/2 below the pad). He will have to remount the motor since he is all the way to the top of the jack plate and since his E-tec does not have low water pick ups i am not sure how much higher he can go . He maintains 15 lbs of water pressure now.Is anyone running an E-Tec? Do they make low water pick ups.? How much set back should he run. Does anyone know what he should be able to run ?(gps mph) Sorry for the rambling post. This is a great site. Mike(allisonGS 225pm ss)

Bobs makes a great low water pickup that will work for na E-tech. I think there is a tread some where on this site detailing and install of the Bobs kit.
Good luck

I am not familliar with the e-tech motors, I know they make water scoops for the mercs for those who dont have a nose cone. As far as set back goes, 10 to 10 1/2 inches seems to be the majic number for pulsare's. Do you know what prop he is running? Do you know where the motor is mounted to the jackplate or where the jackplate is mounted to the transom?
Running the prop shaft 3 1/2 inches below the pad is a good place to start for the depth but with the right prop and water pressure guage to watch I know you can go higher. As for the speed, upper 70's is pretty common for the 2100.
Good luck.
Lower 70's is pretty common with 225 horse and 3.5" below the pad (propshaft). BUT, you have to install a tight bow cover to get there. What GPS speeds is he getting with what props?
