I picked up a 25 tempest plus from the local merc dealer to try out. It is a demo prop that is new out of the box. The problem is that the hub has not been installed. The instructions are not very good, and I have never done this before. Do you take the center piece out (part at back of prop) and tighten down, remove and then reinstall that piece? I tried to install it with that piece in, but the prop does not seem to seat into the gear case far enough...
I need help!!!

Install the square plastic piece in the prop with the spline end toward the nut end of the prop. With the Tempest there should be a plastic washer that installs in the gear case end of the square plastic piece. Next install brass washer on prop shaft and then prop. Slide bronze spline piece and turn as needed till splines on prop shaft and the ones in the props plastic hub all line up and bronze piece slides all the way down. Next install lock plate and tighten the prop nut. Fold down three lock tabs and your set.

Yep I got that far, but the prop does not seem to sit low enough against or close to the gear case.

Hmmmm. Do you only have one washer on the prop shaft? And the tapered side of the washer fitting the taper on the prop shaft?
