yes folks thats right. i finally broke 80 mph yesterday. 80.6 to be exact. :cheers we had a break in the weather so i figured i would give it a go. i stopped by the local mercury dealer. i have a buddy who works there. he has the mirage in my other posts. i borrowed his 29P mazco RE3. right off the bat i knew it was a better prop. i saw 80+ a couple times.
the predictor was smooth as silk at 80+. i wish i had a bit more power. a couple more rpm would be great. maybe next year:sssh:

Congrats!!!! :cheers When I bought my boat is was capable of 97mph but I did not want the headaches of a big blower motor. Now I can barely break 70  with a full load of people and gear on board. I wish I could run 80......

Great Job man!!! It will be a much better winter for you knowing you broke 80mph.
I agree, lets show those guys on scream and fly that a predictor can do 90mph.

thnaks guys, im going to look into freshening up this engine over winter time. i need to gain some rpm's. 90 would be great but 10 mph is a big jump.

Think positive! You can break 90. Set up, set up, and more set up!:thumb:

I think your set-up is as good as its going to get. Freshin up the motor and try and shave some weight off the boat. Try pulling out the passanger seat and rear bench and anyting else that could be removed that has some weight to it.
10mph gain is not easy to get. You would need to do some serious motor work.

i need to have two people in the boat to balance it at speeds over 70. with just myself it has a wicked gangtser lean to the right. its not fun. i think i was running as light as i could when i hit 80.
i was thinking about jacking it up to 1/2 inch above and un a 30 hoss or ET. i just need to find one this season i can borrow.

The other thing you may want to look at is the bottom. Make sure all the strakes are sharp and the bottom is true.
Freshed the motor and hit it with a NOS shot. 90 OH YEA.

80 MPH is wickedly fast in a small boat!! I can attest from running my Talon into the mid 80's. The wind get deafening, you can barely see (unless you duck behind the windshield, your eyes get watery, you have to watch for any change in the water ahead, your knuckles turn white on the steering wheel, your bicept begins to burn from the torque on the wheel, your throttle hand get sweaty, passengers begin to squirm....man that's fun!!!!!!!!!!!!
Congrats and stay safe!!!

Way to go illmatic,I hope to try a bunch of props on mine with gps in hand in the spring, I think I broke 80 this year aswell, but it's not official until I get it on gps, like you, I don't think I've got the right prop on yet. What was the midrange acceleration like with the bigger chopper?Great boat man! I'll finally post picks of mine next week, forgot the camera again!

with it jacked up, mid range was great. the 28 and 29 had better mid/top acceleration then the 26.

well i did run the 30" hoss. i hit 81.7 mph. i jacked the engine up to 1/2" above the pad. this hoss is a great prop. i could still turn it at 6400 rpm. running it this high gave me 15% slip though. i think if i lowered it back down to even with the pad, i could also lower that slip %.
too bad it has now dropped into the 30's here. it was 75 on saturday when i ran it. i am holding out for 1 more 60+ day.

if you could somehow balance the boat a bit without the passenger/150ish lbs of weight you should increase speed... a small boat like that, 1 person has got to be work atleast 2 mph... 85 is in sight I'd say, keep trying props, what about a 32 hoss? If you can still pull it 6-6200 then seems like 85 should be no problem, ofcourse you've got to think about midrange etc...

yeah, balance is the key with my boat. i usualy have my 200# brother riding shotgun when im out. i am sure he would free up some speed. i just wish i wuld have started testing a bit earlier in the season.
