View Full Version : 1990 sportfire
looked at a sportfire is this a popular model, nada price is low for what the asking price is. Is this the smaller version of the exiciter. The sportfire has a outboard 125 on this . Is this a better combo than I/O or its a choice. I think the I/o market is stronger than outboards. I like outboards and not sure are they easier to maintain than I/O "s. Whats this sportfire value in the northeast.

The sportfire is a rare find that was a very fast hull. Boston Predictor had one this past summer and found that it was faster than his Predictor with the same motor. The outboard version is going to be faster due to the amounts of power you get from the light weight. How much are they asking and whats the condition? I recently found out after buying a Predictor that NADA is not very accurate with determining boat values, especially Checkmates.

Depends on where you boat. Outboards are much faster, more economical to run, and way better slalom wakes.
Daren34 had a 1980 diplomat outboard(same hull, open bow) with a '92 'rude 2.0l 140 4cyl looper that would pull a 22p Raker prop to 6300 rpm w/ a 6 inch hyd jack plate.
I have a '86 Diplomat I/O with a hot 350 chev mercruiser alpha1(originally had a 170 hp 4cyl Mercruiser) so far 5300 rpm 4blade 14.5x20 Mach Sterndriver that has seen better days.
Great wakeboard wakes- too much weight in back (huge slalom wakes)

I have a 1980 Sportfire with a 150hp v6 merk. i love the boat and its beam is a little biger that my friend preditor open bow. i think mines faster but rides a bit rougher because the less of the v of the bottom but my boat has really thin fiberglass dont know why all 1980 sportfires are like that i paid 4k for mine from my dad since being a fast boat and he was use to biger off shore boats and how they drove he sold the boat to me
thanks for all the info the sportsfire. I probably will buy it. this will be my second checkmate. I had an 1988 exciter with 150 marriner sold year 1/2 ago and been looking at few different boats since. I like this boat is this a good move. Credit union will not put a loan on this. Will buy with my casino greenback winnings. Is this a good move for a 16yr old sportfire. what everbody think
