The new engine will probably be quite different than the 06. The US has enacted some serious new pollution laws for any diesel truck built in 07.

My dad just took delivery of an 07 GMC 2500 Classic which is basically an 06 model truck. By January 1, 2007 the engine will be changed to meet the new laws. GM just ran some 06's with 07 titles to meet market needs because they had not finished the new diesel engine yet. I don't think the new engine in the GM trucks will be as powerful as the 06 which was 360hp & 650lb/ft torque.

Pardon me, the new 2007 engine is rated 365hp / 660 lb/ft torque. My dad had been advised that the pollution controls were much different and most of the aftermarket parts (programmers, etc) would not work on it. It sounded like there were some concerns. He wanted something that had been proven as opposed to something new to the market.

The little turbo spools up fast and the big one takes over to make make power. I think they were having trouble getting power any other way.

The problem is the new pollution laws. We have a good friend who works for a large Caterpillar Dealer / Service Company. Cat actually calls this guy to send him all over the world to service Cat diesels - so he's about the best in the country. He says "do not buy a diesel for a few years". Something to do with the way they're having to make them now has him very worried about reliability.

Everyone is advertising more power though, the new GM Duramax is 360hp / 660 lb/ft (king of the hill). I guess the durability will be the question.
