Time to start the hunt for a new project. I decided the allison ss-20 was to much work i.e. $$$$$ so thats gonna be put on hold until I can muster up the will to finish it.
Im looking for a deep V 21'+ offshore style hull.
My budget is $2,500 or so. Im looking for a solid project with a strong transom, preferably something along the lines of a Formula, Superboat, Donzi, Checkmate, wellcraft, stingray etc...
Sterndrive or outboard, with or without power, doesnt matter... It must have a reasonable trailer though. I would be willing to travel 200 miles to pick it up and if a member of the board finds me a good deal I will send them a $100 finders fee so guys hook me up Im looking for a deal!
Thanks
Geoff

I was looking at a black and red Maxxum 229 with a bigblock this past summer and I loved it. the bottom was all blistered so I passed.

I did find a boat however its not a Checkmate. Its a 21' Rally Sport with a BIG V8 on it. Not sure if its the engine I want but it was a steal. Maybe my next boat will be I/O or twins

Okay so I had a Chris Craft 21' like a Superboat hull, with one of those Johnson V8s boy it was fast and it really wound up. Unfortunately my girlfriend left me because she assumed I was having an affair with the OMC mechanic at the marina. I spent more time there then I did with her or on the water, it was always something and it was always expensive.. WAKE UP:sleep:
Go get a 4 stroke V8 I/O and stop the madness!!
much better on fuel consumpton low end power nad repairs/parts are cheaper.
Oh yea I forget you are from Marblehead so you must love to spend the dough on the outboards.
yes I get smoked by an out board now and then but boy my V8 Chevy sounds sweet uses less gas and is much easier to work on.. Most parts can be had from NAPA and they are marine parts.
So be bold and get it on!

I havent had all that much bad luck with outboards yet (keyword) but I hear ya about the Chevys. I was also looking at that 23' formula with twin Chevys on Craigslist a while back...If that was posted two weeks later Ide have grabed it.
Its hard to find a good used I/O performance boat.

OUCH! Somebody call 911! Those OB remarks are killing me!lol Don't let my Merc. hear you talking like that, I was thinking of replacing it, but it may be able to sweet talk me into running it for another 11 years. Thats right, a 1996 that has been under water before and spent enough tome at w.o.t. to wear out 4 sbc's and the only thing ever done to it, spark plugs and 3 water pumps. Some of you other OB guys help me out here!
:cheers boatman

I've had my 1993 115 Johnson for a year now and have not done anything but changed the gear oil in it when I got it just to so I knew what was in it.

1 owner 1989 merc 115 (oil injection still works). Changed plugs, water pump and lower unit oil. Stays in water from May till October every year since new.17 seasons and no major problems. runs 5600-6000rpm

FYI- This engine is for sale

Is that true? I always thought outboards of comparable HP got better gas mileage.

Daren34's 190hp I/O uses a 3rd of the fuel in a larger boat than the 140hp johnson he had on his '80 diplomat and has way more power out of the hole but not the top end
