It sounds like SCT warmed that puppy up a bit, or at least relieved the exhaust a bit or something.


I know where there's a 65 Horse version of that motor for sale.

It has spent most of it's life on the back of an old ladies tin boat.

I think it's a '73. Although I can't remember if it's a Javelin, Stinger or something else.

Amt/ Chris- The motor is an origional 15" race version of the 74' OMC 75 Stinger. It came w/o hyd. trim but with relieved exhaust on the mid and it screams at 5800 rpm The boat is actually a restored 72' MX13. The video was only the 2nd time I've run the boat. As you can tell the boat ran VERY wet w/ the current setup. I need to find a chopper or OMC SRX to make the boat hang and run. It should run high 50s- low 60s.

I thought all those Stinger type OMC motors were more or less just standard 65-75 Johnnyrudes with different decals. And the main benefit was they were loopers and you could get a 15" mid.

I'm not a 'Rude follower per se, so per perhaps I wrong.

OR, is yours something extra special and if so, how is it different?

I'm going to list my MX13 (less engine) for sale if anyone is looking for a small boat.

the real 15 inch hustler and stinger motors had different powerheads, the porting was different. If you don't believe me ask John Tiger Jr. or any other knowledgeable OMC fan. The real stinger is very hard to get on plane in comparison to the 49 cuber fishin motor. The real short shaft stinger with the different porting and smaller nitro gearcase was built from 1975 till approximately 1987. the long shaft stinger is just an orange fishing motor. you can get a long shaft stinger for $500 to $1000, but a real 15 inch motor with the nitro case and proper powerhead sell for around $2000 to $3000. there are lots of fakes our there as well, it seems everyone nowadays is looking for a 15 inch mid to put under their 20 inch stinger. buyer beware i guess.

I just put one of my real hustlers onver in the buy sell area, its not getting used anymore and it deserves a good home.

i just watched the video and thats not a proper stinger gearcase, thats just a fishing motor large diameter case. The motors were white in the 80's, you sure thats a 1974? It should be orange, it may or may not have a stinger HP powerhead, you would have to look at the ports to see. Very nice looking motor though.
