View Full Version : Oil Filter relocation kit for '03 4.3 V6?

I'm trying to find an oil filter relocation kit for a 2003 Mercruiser Vortech 4.3 190 hp motor. Any ideas? Mercury wants $280 for the kit for this motor, and we don't need anything THAT fancy. Options?

Summit racing has them for $34.95. You may have to call them. for the 4.3L.

JW: Look, I assume you want the kit because you are having a hard time getting at the oil filter. Now, price comparsion - oil filter kit 280 (it's 380 here in Canada). Rebuilt engine $3000-4000. Oil filter kit is cheaper. Mercurys kit is expensive, granted, but it is a complete kit made for your engine and most importantly, the kit has a one year warranty - which covers parts and labour. Think that 35 kit will? The engine is a very expensive part of your boat - DON'T go cheap. Do it right or don't do it at all. By the way, if it is hard to get at the oil filter, the engine may have to come out to install the kit.

Merc makes 3 different ones. Use vin# to order. Some are cheeper than 280

Thanks for the input everyone. I ordered a drive shower for the lower unit today from Paul Kermis (Simrek Corp. (585) 334 - 0531). I ordered the Super Summit model, his best one for the Alpha. $139 delivered. I also have a $500 stereo going into the boat as we speak. So I'm not afraid to spend some money. It just seemed to me a little (a LOT) of money for the oil filter relocation kit. I looked at the picture for the '03 4.3 relocation kit, and while it's a very nice quality piece, it's also a unit that has to be mounted where <span class="ev_code_BLUE">MERCURY</span> wants it mounted, which may not be best for me.
That's why I'm looking for good quality options outside of Mercury. A good quality 'generic' style relocation kit should allow me to mount the filter where <span class="ev_code_RED">I</span> want it to be located for best access.
