What do you use to attach the new stringer to the floor? Is there a waterproof epoxy? LakeRaider

Staples, use staples to hold it in place while you use strips of fiberglass to bond the pieces together.

use heavy wiegts to hold the plywood down about 24 to 48 hrs no need for nails or staples

good luck

coat all the wood pieces with smiths penetrating epoxy a day befor putting together
you will get a better bite into the wood and it will help preserve the wood

use only marine plywood same glue but no voids and more layers

epoxy will not stick to treated lumber

you can laminate plywood together for the stringers they will be stronger and lighter than hardwood

good luck daren

As you can tell, there is no 'one' way to do a floor. Epoxy is good but expensive and since your boat was originally built from polyester resin, it will do the job to rebuild it. You can just screw some strapping across the stringers to hold them in place while you fiberglass them to the hull. Put some weight on top if you need it. Once cured, you take them off and finish the job. Read the threads in this forum of other restos. Here's mine: http://checkmate-boats.com/forums/showthread.php?t=4539

I used kitty hair bondo. Mixes real thick and has glass in it. I put a thick coat on the bottom side of the stringer, then set it in the hull. The extra that flow out the side's I smoothed with my finger to help fill the voids and to help get rid of the 90 deg angle. Once dry, I glassed the surface from the stringer to the hull.

Most people don't know this but there are 100 different ways to build a boat. 95 of them will "work" 75 of them are "right".

Sometimes it seems crazy to rebuild a hull for weeks or months when the dang thing was built in less than 8 hours. It just messes with your mind. :eyecrazy:

Make sure your string is tapered to match the hull deadrise, set the stringer in a bed of Plexus adhesive. Temporarily tie the stringers together with wood strips to prevent them from moving. Glass the stringers in with Epoxy Resin and 2 layers of bi or tri directional glass. When you set your floor on top of the stringers you can also run beads of Plexus accross the top of the stringers to mate the floor for additional strength.
