THERE ARE NUMEROUS DIFFERENCES BETWEEN THE EARLY BRAVOS AND TODAYS BRAVOS, FROM THE ACTUAL GEAR CASE DESIGN, WATER PICKUPS, GEARS SIZE, ETC. THERE IS A SHOP THAT SPECIALIZES IN BRAVO DRIVES CALL (NO PUN INTENDED) THE BRAVO SHOP, YOU CAN FIND THEM ON THE NET OR POWERBOAT MAGAZINE.

Thanks Jupiter, I spoke to Dean at The Bravo Shop and he stated the major upgrade was done around June of 1991.(Of coarse I have a 1990 unit). The shafts have less oil holes drilled in them (less likely to snap) and there were changes made to the clutch department. He also stated that he didn't like the Merc. lube and recomended Mobil trans 50 synthetic gear lube or the AIMS? lube.

GLAD THEY WERE ABLE TO HELP YOU OUT. THEY HAVE NUMEROUS UPGRADES TO IMPROVE YOUR DRIVE. IT JUST DEPENDS ON HOW MUCH $$$ YOU WANT TO SPEND. THE 1990 BRAVO YOU HAVE IS A GREAT DRIVE. MUCH STRONGER THAN THE ALPHA (ALTHOUGH I'VE BEEN TOLD THE ALPHA IS FASTER THROUGH THE WATER, SMALLER GEAR CASE, ETC) JUST DON'T TRY TO PUSH AN EARLY BRAVO DRIVE PAST 400 HP. THAT'S WHEN THING BEGIN TO BREAK!!

I just compared my outdrive my new ride with an 89 Bravo and found I've got the newer style! http://www.checkmate-boats.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif The upper case is the same but the lower unit is 3" wider than the original version! Time for a new paint job and decal set. http://checkmate-boats.com/6/ws/,s,8626072361/Graemlins/thumb.gif
