I really miss that sound over the winter!!! Where are you boating? I only know of a few good sized lakes in your neck of the woods.

Thanks guys!

I boat mainly on Lake Winnipesaukee in New Hampshire, very rarely on Webster Lake (not really big enough to get going). Winnipesaukee is about 2 hours from here but a great lake 26 miles long 15 wide.

Thanks on the sun pad . I probably have one more season before I redo my interior as well.

Winni is a great lake! I'm up there all the time. I'm north of Boston but have a place on lake Ossipee, NH. Trailer over to Winni all the time from Ossipee. Takes me about 25 minutes from time I leave Ossipee until the boat is in at the ramp in Center Harbor. If you haven't tried it yet, head over to Sebago for the day. Not nearly as busy as Winnipesaukee and it's a real nice lake, I actually prefer it over Winni. Sebago is only 40 minutes from my place in Ossipee. Let me know if you ever head over there and I can get you directions to a nice ramp in Standish that's tucked out of the way and tough to find.

lt133,
My parents have a place near Ossipee, on Balch Lake. I usually boat on a large lake in Vt, and a couple of years ago I took my Check to my parents...seems like the lake got a lot smaller... Iv'e been known to go to Winni as well, have friends who have a place on Jonathan's Landing. I usually hang out and anchor by the Great Neck Bridge.

Next time you're at Winni try Braun Bay or Blacky's Cove. Braun's usually a jumping place (after a quick stop at the Naswa of course!).

How big is Sabego?

lt133

Sebago is approximately 45 square miles w/105 miles of shore line. There is a great shallow sandy area by the Sebago State Park where everyone hangs out. It is at the entrance to the Songo River. You can take a 45 minute cruise up the Songo and go through a set of locks which will bring you into Brandy Pond and then into Long Lake which is approximately 13 miles long. All are great for boating!! Limited hazards, deep water and plenty of room, no where near as crowded as Winni.

Sounds pretty nice so it is roughly 1/2 the size of Winni.. Is Sebago Clearly marked or do you need to know the lake for shallows and rocks. I am never comfortable on lakes I don't know that aren't marked. Is their plenty of open running room. What about places to stay. I am very interested in checking it out.

Braun Bay is cool to hang out I have been on that lake since I was a kid. I know the lake well.

Sebago may seem smaller than Winnipesaukee on paper, but the lake is actually wide open and deeper than Winni. With access to Long Lake there's probably actually more total square miles of lake w/Sebago. Not as many commercial places as Winnipesaukee but I can't say enough about the lake. You won't be dissapointed! Clearly marked and easy navigation. They'll even provide you with a map of the lake at the ramp! There are quite a few places to stay around there, check out this site www.pointsebago.com (http://www.pointsebago.com) really a nice place. You can probably search around and find cheaper places but this has it all. They also have a pretty decent poker run each year. I planned on attending last year, blown coupler took care of that. Poker run has thier own site, www.sebagolakepokerparty.com (http://www.sebagolakepokerparty.com) check out the pictures, it should give you a good idea of the lake.

Seems pretty nice. That poker run looks fun, have you gone before??

Does the lake have marine patrol...speed limit....noise level??

lt133
03-13-2007, 08:57 AM
Yes, they do have a marine patrol. I have never been bothered by them. I have run on the lake with open exhaust and never been stopped. 1st time I put my boat in the water there I asked the state worker at the ramp about a speed limit and he told me "Yes, 200mph, you keep it under that and you should be fine"! You do have to have a Maine Millfoil sticker on your boat. they can be purchased on-line (I'll try to get you the website) or at a local Town Hall. (Standish Town Hall is on the way to the Standish ramp, about 1.5 miles away). Non-resident stickers are $20.00 but the fine for not having one I believe is $500.

Us New Englanders should try and plan a meeting at one of these lakes sometime in the summer. Never been to Sebago, just drove by it once. Sounds like a cool place.

I'm in if anyone is interested. We should start a thread...never to early to plan. Maybe take a poll and see what lake everyone would prefer, I'm not sure how many New Englanders we have on the board but I'm sure we could put together a good time.

I agree we talked about this a little last year. That oker run on Sebago does sound fun though. I suggested a possible checkmate Poker run on Winni last year they have a dealer on that lake and might sponsor it. I know that Baja has one every year. they take off from the NASWA and have at it. I think there are a decent amount of checks in NE England but we don't seem to have a lot in this site.

Unfortunately, right now I do not have the time, patience or energy to organize a full blown event (work, family, in-laws, f*** snow coming today) but I would be more than willing to help out any way I can. Maybe start small this year....informal gathering at Sebago or Winni or maybe a weekend deal and hit both lakes? If I get a chance tonight maybe I'll start a thread on gatherings and see if anyone is interested....or someone else can start one while I'm out shoveling tonight:brickwall:

lt - we are supposed tp get 20 inches tonight.
I am all for an informal gathering, b.y.o everything. Makes it easy to plan. Sebago sounds like a fun lake and would give us more room with less boat traffic. Its location seems like it would be fairly central to all of us. Perhaps those that know the lake could figure out a little run for us (point a, point b etc). I don't know if there are any restaurants on the lake, but if so perhaps we could all meet there for lunch rather than trying to figure who brings what for a barbecue. All we would need to know is approximate numbers in order to make a reservation. Knowing the date far in advance would definately help those of us (ie me) who have to put in for time off far in advance. Maybe early August?

Sounds good to me. I'm on Ossipee Lake in Freedom, NH-about half-way between Sebago and Winnipesaukee- either is real close for me. Sebago is fun, although less commercialized. There are only a few places to eat on the main lake, but if anyone wants to take a cruise up the river from Sebago to Long Lake (about a 45 minute trip-headway speed) there are several waterfront restauraunts with plenty of dock space. Personally, I enjoy the trip up the river. So, it's settled, we'll start planning and see if anyone is interested. Myself and a buddy of mine (28' Convincor) will be going anyway, we're there all the time. I'll (or someone) start a thread on the gatherings section and see if we can't put something together. I'm not an expert on the lake but I have been there many times and hopefully I'll be able to supply answers to any questions anyone might have about the lake, area, accomodations, etc. Of course, this will all depend on if it ever stops snowing, my parts arrive, I get my steering installed, get the motor together, install the new power................:irked: :irked:
