The speedometer pickup on my Merc engine got plugged up and the previous owner installed an external one.He didn't like where it was mounted so he moved it and filled the holes.I got the motor one fixed and would like to remove the external one.How is the best way to make sure the 6 holes(present and old holes) are sealed as not to let water into the transom?Any good suggestions?

You can fill the holes with epoxy resin. I used a syringe to ge it all the way into the hole. One that has set mix up some gelcoat and match the color. I did not have to do the gelcoat as I will be painting the boat.

Another way to do this repair would be to fill the holes with dowels coated with Marine Tex epoxy. First determine what size holes you have, then get the next size bigger dowels from a local hardware store. Drill the holes to the size of the dowel. Cut the dowels to a length that allows them to be slightly recessed when hammered in. Coat the dowels with marine tex and hammer them in. Then repair the gel coat.
