Moved here from Wilmington last year and I am keeping my checkmate at the Boat Rack in Denver, NC (Lake Norman). I looked around at the marina and didn't see one Checkmate. I am wondering if there is anyone on the site that runs there boat on the lake and where a good place is to go on the lake to hang out? Thanks!

Well Howdy Duty freind
I hang out on Norman and SCT he has that new twin outbord in the photo gallery known as SCT's Monster. You are right its rare two see a Checkmate on Lake Norman. I have been going their 3 years and never bumped into SCT. I think SCT is at the Denver side. I hang alot on the North end and the floating bar at the landing. I eat at the Rusty Rudder sometimes on the soulth end. But the best Ribs I have ever had are at the Lake Norman Motel. I would only eat their not sleep their. :cheers

Thanks for the reply Big Red. I think the Lake Norman Motel is right in Denver? Right? I plan on getting the boat in 2-3 weeks and hope to enjoy what the lake has to offer. I heard it can be a little crazy on the weekends with the traffic. Is that true? I know the major holidays are big on the lake but I am talking about a regular weekend.

The soulth end will have 2 foot of chop or more on saturday and sunday. I do not recommend going unless you have a deep V boat. I never take my Jetmate to the south end on the weekends only my Convincor. The South end is going towards 77

Although I am VERY fond of Lake Norman, coming from Raleigh is a bit of a haul especially for a day trip.
I'll concur on the lack of Checkmate's in NC as in the past 10 years I have only seen 2 other than my own, both of which were in Falls Lake in Raleigh.
I hope to get to Charlotte at least one weekend this Summer, so hopefully I'll bump into one of you.
