Hello all.
I'm not sure if this is where I post this question, but here goes. I just came aquired another project. A friend of mine gave me a hull, it is 12' long and just under 5' wide. The name plate says Lazer and the manufacturer id; Camstar. Anyone ever heard of this boat? I'm not sure what I will do with it, but I it is an interesting boat. When I get the digital camera, I'll try to post pics if anyone is interested in seeing it.
Thanks
Lanny
Ps: The Predictor is coming along, slower than I would like, but she is coming along. Thanks for all the help I have recieved on here.

Now that the pics are here, thanks to Coop, does anyone know or think that this hull might be a Checkmate?

No, not a Checkmate. One company I know built it was Playbouy in Alma MI.

hello. i have a 1986 Camstar Lazer in great shape. i'm selling it, actually. on Seattle and Bellingham Craigslist. i'm thinning my boat collection due to a move, but this one is a blast on lakes and the Puget Sound. Kept in great shape. It's got a 40hp Nissan with electric start, cover, and newly refurbished trailer. 360 710 0728
Now that may be the best 12' boat design I've seen! Not only is it good looking, but it's a bow-rider for true 3-seat capacity! Coop, THIS is the small boat you want to build!

That would be a fun project to put a Merc sport jet in. Nice boat design, I have never seen one in person.
I wrote Playbuoy about the molds for these boats and got this response:
Jim - these were purchased boats that we remarketed so we have no components. I believe the originator has long been out of business.

Merc doesn't want to make Sportjets anymore. But it would be a kick ass boat to put a little Vazer I/O in.

Can you still get parts for them? What is a Vazer?
You can see the Vazer on the Mercury web site. It's a 1.6 liter 4-stroke car engine turned on it's side. 100 horse. Used in pontoons and such. Check it out, kinda a neat little I/O package if you dont need much power.

I just googled it-Seems like it would be OK in that boat.
"Smaller and more compact" was the big news from MerCruiser when it recently introduced Vazer, its new 100-horsepower stern-drive for pontoons and small boats. A small, powerful 1.6-liter fuel-injected GM engine is paired with a compact new stern-drive
