I picked up my MX-16 from Kary's place Monday. If you remember last year I won it on eBay, and Kary drove up to Flint and picked it up for me. Thank you Kary. I've been wanting to get it much sooner but could not get away. All I can say is WOW. I got a lot of boat for my money.
Kaiasmate says, I should keep it, and hang my 150 on it.

What transom design is on this thing? Everything looks good, how is the floor and transom?
As far as dash holes, I guess it depends on you, but if you end up with a water pressure gauge, hour meter, trim gauge, fuel guage, etc you can fill 'em all. I'm not sure what was in the double hole all the way to the starboard side unless I'm forgetting something.
I like those boats though, and you need one that you can ride in, so DO IT!!

doulble hole was probably for the 3 button trim system common in late 60's early 70's merc powered boats

The floor seems solid, the transom is going to need work. The boat was originally Red Flake, but has been Gel Coated Red.
Should I go with fixing up the red, or should I put it back to Red Flake?

Thats what I was just thinking:)
Coop, You sure did find another gem. Ide leave the holes and maybe fill the old trim switch hole.
Can the gelcoat be restored or is it getting a fresh coat? Did it come with a windshield? This boat would be perfect for a 1500 tower of power.

I have a trim switch that I can put in the hole.
It will definatly need a repaint one way or another.
All I have to hang on it is my 2.0 V6 150HP

Yep, by the bolt holes in the transom it did have an old Merc with Power trim. That dip in the rear bulkhead/transom area is cool.

Kaiasmate, talked me into fixing this one up a bit. I got the rubrail off tonight and drilled out all the rivets. But Mrs. Coop came out and made me stop working on it tonight, so I won't get the deck pulled until tomorrow.

Is that MX-15 ready for paint yet? Bring it down, I can finish the prep work, and finish the balsa repair if you haven't done that yet.
I'm setting this boat up on trailers so that I can move it in and out when needed.

Kary, you have a 2 yr old named Mason? That's funny, my 2 yr old son's middle name is Mason and my nephew named Mason is about 2 1/2. My wife and I had planned on using the name first, but my brother beat us to it.
Mason was my father and grandfather's middle name but my grandfather used it his whole life.
Sorry Coop :offtopic:
yeah, we named him Mason because it was a name that no one could really shorten or make fun of. Me n momma aren't too big, so I didn't wanna hafta go to any dad's house and settle a fight.....LOL
Mason Andreu was fitting for him. Andreu after my brother's middle names seein's how his son got miy middle name and he told me that I wasn't ever gonna have any kids...lo n behold this is my first and I was 42....
sorry to drag it on
I haven't touched the mX 15 yet. Balsa is cut out, but I was gonna wait to get some thicker-gotta wait for some ebay monies comin in. Basically I need to roughen up the inner skin and transom skin so the transom wood and balsa will bond to it. Then I need to lay the balsa, matting, and transom, then put the top half on. When the top half is on, without the rubrail, I want to start sanding and prepping the whole boat-hull and deck. I thought I would have time for it, but we are gettin busier at work so I put it on the trailer, tarped it tight and am waiting for some time. I may be off this weekend, but the weather may not cooperate with me. I am still tryin to get the dang snowmobile out of the garage so I can get the mower out.....
Lemme know if you want to do the balsa and the transom. I have 2 gals of epoxy resin and hardener and TONS of mat. 2 grapefruit boxes full of huge woven roving sheets and then the other has the biax. If more resin is needed I can get it, too. I could bring it down to you if thats what ya wanna do or maybe make it a day when I can give you a hand on it. I could bring it back and get the deck back on it and start the prep work. I still don't have any word on the red flakes yet. I may have to get some others. Can you spray bigger flake? I can supply the gun n nozzle if you don't have a gun that'll throw the big flakes.

I can do the prep work, I can finish up the transom, I HAVE the correct Balsa that you need. I'm less than a mile from all the Red Flake we could need.
Having the deck already off is a plus just set it back on with a few screws and some duct tape for the trip.
I can work on both hulls next to each other.
Now you got me thinking about doing mine in Red Flake also. Thats the color under the rub rail.
I even have the rivets and the rivet gun to put it all back together.

not tryin to have a bad influence
I will find out my schedule for the weekend. I need for it to stop rainin so I can get the tarp back off it and put the deck on good enough for travel. I think I will shrink wrap it after that till I get it to you. I might be able to sneak it to you some nite this week. How long did it take to get back home from here?

Just under 3 hours. It was about a 7 hour round trip. When I went up I went Rt 4 to the Ohio Turnpike over to I69 then up. Lots of construction on the Turnpike between Sandusky OH and Toledo. On the way back down I to the Pike to Toledo then down I-75 to exit 156, the over toward my way.
Less than 5 miles difference between the two routes. But saved almost an hour on the way home.

Here is another view. But do you see the dark area on the bottom of the boat. This area was delaminated, and I suspected that it might have bad balsa core. This would be a setback on this job. But you'll see what it was in the next 2 pics.

It was just a BIG air bubble that had filled up with bilge debris. Most of it cleaned out very easily. This is the bottom side of the air bubble. I will do some grinding and cleanup. But it was solid under this layer. Good to go, and back on track.
