I was wasting some time on the net and came accross this thing:

http://toronto.kijiji.ca/c-cars-vehicles-boats-ROLLER-TRAILER-WITH-FREE-BOAT-W0QQAdIdZ13540810

don't know the year, but it needs some love. apparantly the current owner has started repairing the stringer, the floor is out of it, he says the transom is good - but look at the photo - looks like some kind of set back plate on the back?

he'll sell me the boat for 400 - i'm just wondering what i am getting into - figured it would be a fun little project boat to play with.

it's been painted once so i am also wondering what bodywork i need to do to get it ready for paint - do i have to sand it down to its bare primer coat or can i rough it up and hit it again? apparantly the top deck hasn't been painted but the metal flake is rough - can that be sanded down as well or is there another procedure to prep that

just want to make sure i'm not getting to far over my head - looking at the boat on tuesday afternoon

thanks for your input!

400 isnt a whole lot of money. that looks like a 78. it has the same dash as mine.

For that money its worth the parts. Thats a heck of a bracket on the back. Let us know what you find out.

Yea, someone with a Starflight or Pulsare or something would probably like that bracket. It should get you $100 back.

As long as your up for some work it looks like a cheap project. The amount of paint work all depends on how bad it is, If the deck is not to far gone you can sand and clear it and save the Flake. On the painted parts if the paint is not pealing and badly chiped up you can scuff it and repaint.
Paint materials get exspensive quickly and depends if you want to try some yourself or are you going to hire it out? Also do you have any power for it? finding a good motor can be trickey and costly. Does it have any interior? more $$$
I took an old project boat that was just going to cost too much and made a "Bar" out of it in my pool area ( it wasnt a Checkmate) Or would make a cool sand box. $400. isnt allot of money to get into a good project but it will take a lot of labor and time.

i need to have a good look it at tuesday - found a couple of motors on ebay that weren't bad price wise - never done the paint thing before - first time for everything. if i can spruce it up and make it half decent then it'll be a fun little boat till i get the dough for a pulsare which is still a few years out. i guess we will see!

If you decide to paint the boat go to blue water Marine. There 2 part epoxy primer is really good, sets up fast and sands really easy. By the time you get done shooting the primer you will have the hang of painting the boat. The top coat is single stage. Looks great when sanded and buffed out. The nice part is you can sand out the runs. LOL.

Go for it Chris :bounce:

Since you already have a ride there'd be no rush.
It is kinda addicting fixing one up.

I will be here for moral support & you can even cuss me for helping talk you in to it.

Go for it Chris, Youll love the predictor! I like how low they are in the water. just hang your arm off the side and you can touch the water. great for exploring shallow channels and inlets too. Definitely a very fun lake boat as you can imagine:surf:

looked at it today - transom seems really solid - much to my suprise - guy still wants to much for the trailer - i'll be pulling favors tomorrow - with any luck i'll get it home friday - if i can chase down a cheap trailer. maybe if i wave cash in his face it'll help?

he started doing the repair on the stringer, it'll be coming out and getting done properly - he used spray foam to hold it in?????!!!! anyway - she'll be a project but doesn't look that bad - few holes to fill, lots of sanding and she'll be as good as new - maybe i'll hang a 200 on it and race matt on his river!!!!
