I currently have a 1978 17ft predictor and it has a 1983 Evinrude 115, I would like to put a 1983 Mercury 175 with a 21 pitch prop on this boat but dont know what to expect out of this project. Is it safe or a bad idea? Please if anyone has a topic on this idea, let me know. Thanks Don

I think that boat's rated for a max 150 hp, so your insurance company may give you a hard time. A 175 on that boat with a 21" prop will LAUNCH out of the hole, and probably over-rev on top end. My 17' Pulse had a 2.5 150 XR6 motor, and swung a 26" Laser II on cold days and a 24" Laser II on hot muggy days.........

1995 Pulsare 2100BR/1995 Mercury Promax 225 2.5 EFI/ 1.87:1 Torquemaster/ RapidJack Heavy-Duty manual 10.5" setback/ 23" Tempest worked for ski duty

Welcome to the board. The boat should run good with a 175. My 16.5 foot trimate 200hp merc, I am currently running a 25 laser 2 @ 6500 rpm. The strange thing is I have tryed a bunch of props ranging from 19p to 28p. You just have to try as many as you can to se what works and what the rpm is. I have a 27p 4 blade ballistic that I what to try again now that I have the steering and transom tightened up. The prop before made the boat handle funny.
