Just want to share an experiance with you.

Winterizing my dad's boat yesterday and changed the water separating fuel filter. What i found inside that thing just blew me away. 85% rusted water, some sediment and a little bit of fuel. This boat had a minor sinking b4 he bought it.

My advice to everyone - go out and buy a seperator filter kit (if you don't already have one)and change those filters every year. Pour the filter into a clean clear container and see what you get. I was expecting a bit of crap in the filter but not what i got out of it - should've taken a picture. You sure don't want that running through your engine be it 4 banger or a V8.

Everyone should have a water seperator on their boat, even the O/B's.. Most O/B's don't
If you have a seperator always carry a spair cartrage.. I had one fill up once. I poured the water out and got going but I was'nt to keen on pouring the thing into the river.

Sorry to ressurect an old thread. I'm looking at getting a kit, but none of them seem to include the correct fittings for splicing into an existing fuel line.

Can you help me out?

I just installed one of these the other day as I was rerigging my boat. Good piece at a great price. You need a pair of 5/16" barbed fittings with it for your 115. Most of the newer stuf is all 3/8 fuel line nowdays. Just tell Shawn you need 5/16 barbed fitting and he'll prolly just throw them in @no charge. Real cool guy. I'm lucky. This place is local because they have had alot of stuff I've needed while restoring my Exciter.

As a O/B guy heres my story(I've told before)!!!!!!!! The 1st yr I owned the 245hp.2.5 carbed I picked up a huge peice of debris that made its way thru the inline canister and got stuck in the float of my middle carb holding it wide open, flooding the mota out on the spot witch happen to be the middle of the Detroit river. After being towed to the canadain side(when I was closer to my home port to start.) I had to have my trailer hauled around the bridge to get me and my guests home 4+hrs later.

Since then 13yrs later running a fuel/water seperator not a single proplem. About $75 to start and $8 a filter a yr after!!!!!!!!very happy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

But again just thinking here before i hit the submit button. I run a electric fuel pump,Maybe a OB driven pump might not have pull for a water/fuel seperator.

Unfortunately I already ordered a kit from Bass Pro (needed a lower unit fluid pump anyways, wanted to save on shipping).

I'll head down to the auto parts store and pick up the fittings.

Thanks!

i have a fuel water seperator ive had it fill up the thing acted like it was running out of fuel. when i pulled the back seat to see if i was outta fuel.. (tapping on the tank) i seen the can was literally crushed. :poke:because of the vacume the stock ob pump produced. i had to take the fuel connector off of the outboard and release the vaccume before i could take the canister off sadly i had to pour the water into the river. it had a bit of gas in it :shakehead: not exactly my cup of tea

i believe you'll need what's called "1/4 pipe to 5/16 barb, or 1/4 pipe to 3/8 barb". make sure you get the barb fitting that has a series of barbs on it, not just one. probably cost you $3 for 2 of them.

I'll have to see when the filter unit gets here. I've worked with automotive fuel line before. I just didn't know if I'd need a threaded fitting on one end to go into the F/W separator.
