Is anyone interested in a clean low hour 1989 Checkmate 17' Spectra 171 open bow...(see the 1989 brochure photos). Has 1989 (originally installed) low hour V6 Mercury 150XR. Hull is very clean, interior upholstery is excellent, runs like new (might get 60MPH with right prop), motor is very clean, trailer is decent. Local freshwater Michigan Boat...great starter Checkmate or ski boat...Clean rig for the money but too small for my family...Asking price was $5500/offer...I know you can get it for $5000....contact Jim if your interested at jrumon@yahoo.com http://www.checkmate-boats.com/6/ws/,s,8626072361/Graemlins/thumb.gif

This is a good model boat for someone. It'll hold 7 easily. It's very similar to the newer hull (Pulse 170) that replaced it in 1992. I have a friend with a Spectra 170 and XR4. With the right setup and prop you can actually get 65+. I tried to buy it from him a few times with no luck http://www.checkmate-boats.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif.
For comparison, a new Pulse 170 with XR6 Classic and trailer is going to run north of $20k.
Thanks for posting it Jim! This will be a great boat for someone if it's in good shape.

Well...to make a long story short, I traded my Quad 4x4 and now own this boat...It was too clean to pass up...but still too small for what I need for my family. I am going to detail it up and keep looking for a bigger bow rider (21 pulsair or ???). Here's what it is...

1989 Checkmate Spectra 170 open bow...low hours, very clean hull, excellent shape, off-white color with solid blue stripes and red accents (no metal flake). Interior is mint, upholstery is factory perfect (white with blue & red stripes, carpet is great, everything seams to be totally solid. Motor is 1989 Mercury 150 XR2, did a compression test dead cold and pulls 125psi on all 6...motor is super clean, fired right up and runs flawless (now re-winterized). Boat also has a nice stereo system and brand new full cover (boat was never drilled for any snap-on type covers). Trailer is a 1989 Shorelander, solid, but could use paint and minor TLC to be mint. My plans are to do the detailing and put it up for sale...Price will be determined with hours I put in and whether or not I do the trailer. I post photos when I can. Jim.

JW...sorry, I will try to get back to you direct e-mail tonight. I planned on bringing it home this weekend, but it looks like the snow might postpone it a bit. You will have first dibs since you were first to reply...I have two other interested parties that will have second and third shot at it. I'm thinking $5500 with the boat detailed...or $6000 if I paint and detail the trailer. It's a great little Checkmate for the money! Jim.

Sorry guys...This things just too clean not to hang on to it for the money! My wife actually wants to keep this one for now. I'm still looking for a 21' BR...this will go back on the market if something comes along. Sorry, Jim.
