merc85 is on a distinguished road

Default Checkmate repeat owner

Hello, just bought my 2nd checkmate (in 34 yrs), a 85 Exciter with a 175 Merc. First one was a brand new 84 Enchanter with a 200 merc. Always loved my Enchanter, hope this one will be as much fun. Got some questions down the road, as i hope to upgrade this one with several things, mounts, jackplate, low water pickup etc. Questions to follow. Props? Without low water pickup i always ran a Turbo through hub, with low water pickup a chopper. Curious to see what is better choice now. Thanks

Default Welcome to the forum

The newer outboard Checkmate’s(Pulsares) with pad bottom hull all like the four blade Merc. Trophy Plus props. Since the early pad bottom Mates have a similar hull I’d be really tempted to go there. I’m pretty sure that a number of guys with early style outboard hulls and decent power were doing that but haven’t seen to many of them posting here lately. I think there was an Exciter with 200 or 225 doing 90+ on a Trophy. He had some setback too.
