Lifting strakes are the parts in the hull that run front to back. They are used to help the boat get out of the water and free up the hull. They also help in the area of bit in a turn keeping the hull from sliding through the water.

I posted this in "Ask the Experts" in the thread where vinny is working out his reversion problem...probably should have put it here..

Help us dummies out - didn't see reversion in performance tips for dummies...

Is it water backing up into the engine via exhaust system? What causes this? How do you know if you have it? Is is contagious?? (I know, stupid, but I had to do it)

Thanks

Dan

How about some definitions on rotation? Here is what I found out. I think it is true. Maybe you could correct, edit/proof and post to your definitions list.

MOTORS

Left hand (LH) marine motor rotation is the same as Right Hand (RH) Auto rotation and is referred to as standard or conventional rotation. Motor balancer on front turns clockwise.

Right hand (RH) marine rotation is also referring to as reverse rotation or counter rotation by boaters. Auto industry calls it LH rotation, non-standard or reverse rotation. Motor balancer on front turns counter clockwise.

DISTRIBUTORS

Standard, right hand, and conventional rotation on a distributor means the rotor turns clockwise.

Reverse, left hand, and unconventional, means the distributor rotor turns counter clockwise

PROPELLERS

Right hand and standard means the prop turns clockwise.

Left hand, counter, reverse means the prop turns counter clockwise.

TEST QUESTIONS:

A LH marine motor has a Standard rotating distributor and a RH rotating prop. True or False?

A RH rotating marine motor is counter rotation and the propeller is LH rotation. True or False?

Mercruser out drives connected to a LH rotation marine motor have a clockwise rotating shaft and a RH propeller. True or False?

A RH auto motor has a RH/standard rotating distributor and the wheels go round and round. True or False?

If you put a RH rotating car engine in a boat it automaticaly becomes a LH rotating boat motor. True or False?

Taz,

Good test but you forgot to specify above or below the equator and which phase the moon is in

Just reading up on nose cones and low water pick ups. I dont seem to have enought water pressure when flying down the lake at full trim but perhaps a plate lift would bring her up more verticle and get me better water pickup. I dont know but am eager to learn more. My boat is on my mate website Any tips will help
