Default 78 Checkmate 460ci engine questions

I have a 1978 Checkmate Jet Boat, it has an original but not stock 460 engine.

This engine has been modified and rebuilt but is the original.

1. Are these engines reverse rotation?

It will not fire with a normal rotation starter but did when run backwards.

2. If it is reverse rotation, where dio you obtain one of these starters?

Its so close to be up and running, this should be the final step.

I don't believe they would be reverse rotation. That would cause problems with the pump. But I'm not 100% on this.

You might want to check the distributor for correct positioning. Make certain that the plugs are all wired for the correct firing order.

Where is the starter located, up high or down low? Also, some bell housings had openings for both positions. So, if it is up high at about the 11:00 o'clock position, it is reverse rotation. if it is down low on the starboard side, it is standard, unless you have a reverse rotation engine whereby the jet pump may exhibit some interesting tendencies. Also, installing the upper starter in the lower location, or vise versa, will render the same outcomes, one of which might be a flame about a foot high emitting from the carburetor.

I was kinda hoping for an update on what kind of upgrades the engine is sporting and if you have it running yet.

The engine has been fully rebuilt with higher compression, upgraded pistons, rods, aluminum heads, a lot of matching and balancing work done also. I am also running a 100 shot of nitrous.
