Default Bravo-1 and Hydromotive should I lab?

Got both props last summer purchased new. Bravo is 24P and hydromotive is the OBX-4 24p. Both run so close to each it's hard to notice any difference throughput the RPM. Both run 66-67 with 20-40 gal fuel and as many as 3 riders. Any advantage to the lab service? Anyone due this and what was before after results?

Convincor 270/496-425hp

thx

I saw your post on OSO. Definitely verify your injectors first and get a baseline since you said a buddy has same motor and same props and runs faster than you. I remember reading something about the 496 also having a soft or guardian mode limit at 4800 (80% power) as well that sometimes need to be cleared, poor injector flow might cause that. Those motors are hard to diagnose without a scanner due to all the sensors. Also check wires and plugs as that motor has a persnickety ignition system.

A buddy who had a 259/270 and 485 hp motor responded better to a BBlades labbed Bravo I than he did the Hydromotive QIV which my 253 liked better. I see you have an OBX hydromotive so that should be a round ear bravo copy basically with slightly less diameter i imagine.

Gimme Fuel, When I purchased it had a 23P Mirage+ and would turn 5K@63gps. Has no faults in ECM, but did notice water PSI was 40 at and near WOT which I told is too high. Going to look closer this spring which I may find is a faulty PSI sensor or restriction somewhere? It's a closed system. HAs new wires(from BUP-OSO) and plugs too. Engine just turn 200hrs(2002 engine).. and removing injectors this spring. Some say clean them, BUP suggests replacing with newer design???

Id clean injectors and go from there. BUP is knowledgeable but rubs me the wrong way anymore on there.

I have a good friend locally who cleans/services them. Arcticfriends on OSO (Smitty) will do them by mail.

Its winter, I'd send them out, check cooling system, and try for a new baseline in the spring.

I have a 259.
When I bought my 28 bravo, I really liked it but it had some nicks in the leading edge.
After I had it re-worked and semi labbed, it now acts a lot smaller than it used to and runs way higher rpm.
Im looking for another stock one.
Moral of the story, I think the stock bravo works well with our hull.

Buddies 259 gained solid 2-3 mph with BBlades labbed 24 bravo prop on 470 hp. Exactly what the lab recipe was (as he did not get real scientific/technical with it), I am not sure but boat responded well to it.

Technically the Hydromotive is almost 1" higher in pitch than bravos since the merc props tend to be slightly lower pitch by close to 1" than what is stamped.

Your OBX states they have 3 different cup/flare ring recipes for that prop. Do you know what one you have?

UPDATE

I did get the injectors cleaned along with adding vessel view mobile. With the B1-24 about 1/2 fuel and with just myself I'm able to turn 4950-5040rpm. Just out this week only turning 4700rpm with about same fuel level, but I keep boat at marina... so the bottom is very dirty which costs 2-3mph. Also doesn't help it's been hotter than hell all July... upper 80 to low 90* and humidity too. Hope to clean bottom and put Hydromotive prop on. soon.

I have a 2400 Pulsare with a 300R and I am using a Bravo 24FS. I used to have a 230SX Stingray and I sent the 25P Mirage off to be labbed. It came back and ran the exact same speed and perhaps 200 rpm less but with a bit more bow lift. Many years ago a similar thing happened to me, labbed prop ran the same speed. I have tried 5 props on my Checkmate but I am worried about spending $400+ more to have on labbed. Most people have had better experiences.
