Question QUESTION 4 CHECKMATE

I was doing some reading around the web and cam across this.

I talked with Tom this morning on here who has a 2009 checkmate 27 convincor mid cabin openbow with a 600sci

That is big news that all Checkmate enthousiast would like to hear and see. A 270 with a Merc 600sci that thing should be a rocket. The 300 with the 525 was pushing 80.

But get this the guy claims the boat would only do 78, said it was spinning a 28 prop and turning 5800 rpms. Is the 270br just a big tank or was their a linkage problem between the seat and steering wheel. I have a friend who bought a new 26 foot baja with a merc 600 and I know what that engine will do.

I am sure it is just like the brx as compared to the 24 pulsare. alot heavier in the nose. The only mdel that I believe is the same weight is the 21 C/D as compared to the B/R.
aS FAR AS THE 600 WOW -- Thats alot of coin but Its great to see guy's doing this with mates.

I just relooked, I thought it had rails on the side but it does look like it is in the center. The strange thing is the cabin looks smaller than the 242 I had

I was kind of wondering myself how the 270 hull compares to the 300.

If SCT is getting close to 90mph with twin 300's what would similar power do on the 270?

There's a guy on my home water, Keuka Lake NY, that has a 270 Convincor mid cab/BR with the 600sci Merc for power!! It's white with red and black checker graphics. I talked with him one day out on the water, he's a long time C'mate owner, and said he could push close to 90mph out of the boat. He runs it with straight thru-hull exhuast with out any muffled tips, man does that 600 sound good!! He told me too that he had a tough time gettin Checkmate to rig the boat with that power, but he was puttin up the cash so they did it. I'm sure someone on here like Kip might remember the boat. It's not a 2009 model, i believe it's around an '05 or '06, i can't remember. Last i heard the guy was considering ditching the 600 and goin for the 700sci but i don't know if that ever came about or not.

I was thinking somewhere around the 90 mark with no gear and light fuel in a 270. The baja 26 that's around here with the merc 600. I think the best it would run is 83 empty even the cabin cushions are out. The Baja wont carry the hull like a Checkmate and that's killing his speed. It looks like its plowing water instead of being on top. Plus the electronics where sent off and redone to give it more power.
The funny thing is the 600 sounds to me like a bone stock 454 at idle until you crack the throttle

SCT might remember the exact best speed the Baja got. I know it was under 85

SCT might answer you better but I think 2 300's on a 270 would lift the bow to much and any chop would make it handle bad. SCT's hull is best for twins.
