    Prop suggestions wanted

O.K. Thanks Mark. I was reading somewhere else that a radar gun is the only truly accurate way to check speed. I'll try to get up there this weekend and run it again. Yeah, in 1-2' chop it definitely was a hairy ride. But I am used to open Bay and offshore conditions, so it didn't phase...

That is exactly what I thought, Mark. There is no way a 21" can hit that speed at that rpm. I'm thinking the tach has to be off, although I have to admit that the last rpm reading I took was at 5200 and as I said before, the boat was still accelerating. The problem was it was getting to be...

What you mean is 74+ in a Dipper is insane--the hull wasn't built for it, I don't think. It doesn't handle it very well. Maybe a set of trim tabs to give the hull a little more length and stabilize it a little? I know they work wonders on my Wellcraft. Oh, by the way, It's a 135...

Mariner 150 -small hose from lower unit??

Yep, that's exactly what it was; I found the other end, hooked it up and it all worked. Thanks again. -- Stan

Well, I ran it on sunday on the local lake up here, and all I have to say is H.S!!!! We hit 74.3 mph on gps at about 5200 rpm, the boat was still accelerating and we hadn't trimmed all the way up yet, but she was getting loose and it was a bit rough out (1-2' waves, easy) so I backed her down...

Thanks. I'll keep you in mind if it is no good. I had this prop on a 19' Wellcraft that I put a high-performance 355 in and it kicked ass. It over-revved a little, but there was NO holeshot to speak of, it just lept right up on plane as soon as you nailed it. If I didn't mention it, the prop...

Mariner 150 -small hose from lower unit??

Thanks, I thought it might be, but I have never seen one come out of the lower like that. There is no pitot pick-up on the transom though, so that makes sense, now I just have to find the other end of it to connect it. -- Stan

Haven't tried it yet--will this weekend. I was thinking about a jackplate as well, but I wasn't sure how much setback I would need. Any recommendations on a good make and model for the jackplate? There was a hydrofin on the lower unit and I took it off b/c I never liked them very much. Do...

Mariner 150 -small hose from lower unit??

I have a 1993 Mariner 150 and there is a small pitot-tube like hose that comes up and out of the lower unit right under the steering pivot. It has an odd metal fitting on the end of it. Anyone have any idea what this may be for? Thanks for your help. -- Stan

Hi all. I have a 1984 Diplomat with a 1993 Mariner 150 v-6 on it. It had a 14.25x21 aluminum hustler on it that the P/O trashed. I happened to have a 21 pitch 4-blade Trophy in my treasure trove that does fit on the motor properly. What do you think? Any suggestions would be greatly...

I don't care----they gotta catch me first. :D lol My new motto "No Flares, No Extiguisher, No whistle, No lifejackets, No worries". :thumb: J/K , of course. I am looking forward to more posts and a lot of help from the experts on this forum as I fumble my way through all the...

    I did it!!

I am the proud new owner of a 1984 Checkmate Diplomat with a 150 hp V-6 Mariner disguised as a 135hp. Ran the engine before I bought her, and it runs fine. No detectable misfiring and a new lower unit. She needs to be re-wired and a lot of TLC, but overall she's salvageable. I am actually really...

    New member- possibly new owner!

Thanks for your input 175. Do you know anything about the boat itself. Is the hull worthy of any effort? Or is it just a so-so kind of deal?

    New member- possibly new owner!

Hi to all. I am a new member here. I currently own a 1986 Wellcraft Nova III with twin 350 i/o's. I looked at an early 80's Checkmate Diplomat with a beat 135 v-6 mariner on it last night. I was hoping to get some opinions on the boat and maybe motor quality before I go to look at it again...
