On Board in a Checkmate again!

New member
Hello everyone,
My first Checkmate was a 1977 Trimate III with a 1978 235 Evinrude. I had this boat BK (before kids) from 1984 to 1995. I sold it :brickwall: after my wife and I had our four children (2 sets of twins). A lot of good times were had by all in that boat. :)
I recently came upon a 1989 Starflite with no motor and very good tandem trailer that had been through a bad wind storm. The boat received some fiberglass, windshield, and grab rail damage, but still good enough to get back in the water. I am currently working on getting it ready for next summer.
I have already found a real nice one owner 1990 200XP Evinrude motor.
I really am looking forward to getting behind the wheel of a Checkmate again.:thumb:
Does anyone know where I can get a windshield (or parts) and the SS tubing grab rails?
Thanks,
JMC

Good luck with your rebuild, With that brood U need to start looking for a starliner or not? When I'm out at the lake with the starflite and the family I have 6 nieces and nephews all out at once.4 in the boat and 2 out on the tubes.

As for windshield peices I happen to have 3 of the 4 peices brand new.I'm missing the portside window.I had to replace my portside a few years back! And they only sold complete windows sets and they weren't cheap! Almost $500 ten years ago.Plus that was the last NOS they had.
Let me know what your looking for and let me think about about it

P.S. like I said theres always room!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

:welcome:Back to the Checkmate addiction!! Glad to see Merc 245 might be able to help you out with the windshield. Keep us posted on your progress and post some pictures!!!:thumb:

Thanks Merc245 for your reply. My wife and I plan on doing the same thing you are - 4 in the boat and 2 on skis or tubes.
The large tree branch that fell across the boat bent the starboard front windshield frame and part of the port front windshield frame. The starboard side frame is bent a little, but I think I can fix it. The port side frame is OK.
However, all the glass has been busted out. I can't quite figure out how that happened, but it is what it is.
Would the pieces you have fit my 89 Starflite and how much would you need for them? Maybe you could email a picture of pieces.
Thanks again for your help!

I know I'll regret this. But heres the three pieces I have, First time out of box was to take the picture! I'll PM you with the details!:sssh:

Welcome , where are you from?

This summer I just bought what you had. I bought a 1977 Trimate III bowrider with a 1978 235. I sold the 235 to put my Merc on it. Then the old Merc blew up and I ended up with a newer Merc.

Just curious if I have you old boat, it was from the Akron Ohio area.

Dave,
I am from the Central Kentucky area and I sold my blue/silver Trimate III to a guy that lived in the Lake of the Ozarks area. I had it advertised in Boat Trader and he came to my house, looked at it, bought it, and hauled it home.
Thanks for the interest.
Jim

heres the updated pics of windshield.
P.S. did you receive my last PM about the price change

SS rail pieces

I found the hardware and tubing to repair and replace all hardware on 90 Spectra at discountmarinesupplies.com and wholesalemarine.com I'm still
looking for some of the original guages. You can go back with stainless or chrome. From looking at some of Wildmans boats online I need to quit looking for original guages and bite the bullet and go to all new!!

All my hardware is good. It looks like I will buy some polished SS tubing at the local piping supply house.
I need a tach and speedometer to replace my busted ones. Any suggestions on what brand or type?
