Spur of the moment

Leaving a local county fair my brother and I saw a very interesting looking little boat for sale along side the road , Well two days later I am the proud owner of a 1985 Checkmate Predictor . I already a smaller water toy for my summer but I’ve wanted something a little more sea worthy and I’ve always liked the “ mini offshore “ look . The price was very low so I know there will be more to spend but I do like the process of rehabbing something worth while. Already have met with an Upholstry guy to create a plan going forward to build a rear bench seat and redo the carpeting . Over the winter the motor will be gone trough to hopefully create a drama free next season . I look forward to learning more about the Checkmate world here .1626383924153.jpeg

Working on the base for a back seat . The bottom will flip forward to reveal a small storage space .

Picked up a updated power plant as well to replace the suspect 1972 115. The Mariner is a completely redone 1988 model with the one option i really wanted , power trim , which the Mercury did not have .

Nice predictor!

I also bought one this year with a seized merc 115. I now have a good merc 115 for my boat but I am looking for parts. Do you still have the one that came off yours?

Yes I do , it’s a 1972 and supposedly run when parked two years ago. I have no proof either way as for it running or not but it is complete . I have not decided if I want to sell it or restore it myse floor s back up . I leave for my home in CA tomorrow so both motors and the boat are in storage .

Hi guys so I’m looking at a checkmate sportfire 17ft and wanted to ask how much do you think its worth. It doesn’t have an engine and its an outboard boat

I paid $2,000 for boat motor and trailer . The motor was complete and supposedly run but I replaced it with a newer one without even trying it . The gel coat on the top of my boat was quite dried out but a LOT of buffing and polish brought it back better than I thought I could do. Mine had no back seat but I built a new one for it . I’m not sure if this helps you at all . There are a number of Checkmate pages on Facebook which might give you more info . checkmate owners group and Checkmate mafia are two .
