525 header issues

SippyRat

Well-known member
anyone familiar with the common header issues on the mercury racing 525 efi ?

did mercury correct these issues?

if so what year?

Sippy,

There are tons of articles on OSO regarding the header issues on the 525EFI's. The underlying theme is that they are junk. Personally, I have no first hand knowledge so I can not judge.

I have read many different opinions on what will prevent failure the longest, but eventually it sounds inevitable.

You should head over there and do a search.

On a positive note, I have read (and have several friends with 525EFI's) that they are one of the strongest most reliable "blue motors" ever built.

Good luck.

thanks

i searched oso a bit and it seems mercury addressed the issue but i could not find when/how etc. i asked the same questions there. it seems like a lot of those guys run the blue motors

run a GM 502 block, build it as much as you want! from what i have seen, you like to talk about buying and dont do much of it....thats fine if you are doing research. thats why we are here:thumb:

here we go again with the assumptions and comments. i figured you would have something smart a$$ed to say!

so since i need to spell it out for some members: i have a friend who is considering buying a 2009 boat with a 525. he really likes the boat but has heard many bad things about the headers. i told him i would learn what i could and pass it on.

you are not here to help. you are here to be a jerk. or at least that is what i have observed. i am really surprised that chris lets you get away with half of what you do.

Saw that one coming!:rof:

Guess Ross's New Year Resolution lasted about 37 days.

tell him to buy the boat and replace the headers if he is that worried, you know its like most things only the people who have a negative experience seek an audience

Yup....every time someone posts something on the forums that someone else doesn't like around here, rest assured, in the eyes of someone it's gonna be my fault somehow.

And yes of course, on a 24/7 basis, I personally follow every post, every thread and also have a full and deep understanding of all of the on and off forum relationships among the thousands of members posting here.

I also have a big S on my chest and can leap tall buildings in a single bound. :D

See what ya did now? :shakehead:

In one single rambling post, you managed to tick off SippyRat, break your New Year's resolution and you also forced me to break my long standing record of not posting in the car motor forum. :p

Damn straight! :bounce:

A guy tries to slack off just a wee bit, tries to have a listen to the awesome new Van Halen record while simultaneously watching the Leaf game and a scrap breaks out in the Checkmate car motor forum instead of on the ice.

Cripes...

So what's the bottom line here, basically that Merc 502 headers suck?

Sounds like a bolt off, bolt on, fairly simple remedy to me. :thumb:

Come on guys, we knew Ross would break that resolution. But I don't think it lasted 37 days.... I think I counted 3.7 days!! In the end, he is only following in daddy red's footsteps ;)

Lol big hugs!

My friend is trying to find out if this boat has the new style CMI headers "gen x" or not. Given the year he is hoping it does. But if it doesn't and he buys the boat should he go with the gen-x, hurricane lites, or maybe the stainless marine setup?
