New interior

I just got off the phone with Mike @ Checkmate and ordered up new skins for the Eluder:banana:

I'll post some pics when I tear into it, I can't wait :D there are 5 interiors ahead of mine so it could be a while before it's shipped.

Dang, from some of the photos you've posted I thought your interior looked to be in pretty good shape (definitely better than mine). I'm anxious to hear all about your experience doing this (and cost), 'cause I'm thinking about doing the same once I get the other boat sold.

Whatcha' doin' with the old skins after you take 'em off?

It looks good in photo's and it's not bad for a 89' but it's dried out and this year the rear seat bench split at most of the seems and there are also a few cracks in the vinyl in all of the seats, when I bought it last year it all looked good but I put a lot of hours on it this year and it shows, kids jumping around on a 20 year old seat is not a good idea I guess.lol

Cost is $1050.00 for skins or $2100.00 for complete interior, I pulled my driver seat apart this weekend and all the wood looked good so I just went with skins.

Going to look good John!

How much work is it to replace skins? Do they provide material and you basically just wrap yourself and staple. Forgive my ingnorance if I sound really stupid.

Just wondering.

Yup, I Just gave Mike the ser # and he'll send the skins all sewn and ready to stretch on and staple, my CM dealer offered to lend me his stapler and provide the stainless steel staples so I got that covered.

Mike said the new material is much nicer, softer and everything is double stitched like the new boat seats.

I've never done anything like this before but it can't be too hard, just hope I don't screw it up:o

Some of it's easy, some of it sucks bad! Take your rear bench apart before you get the skins, you may need to just order that one up assembled.............

Yeah JW, I'm thinking I might have to change the wood on that one, but it should be pretty straight forward because the seat base and backrest are square, not rounded like the newer one's, does that sound right or am I missing something? all the wood under the seat base looks brand new or maybe it was replaced within the last few years, if your aware of some problem I might run in to that I'm not thinking of please let me know. this pic was taken in the spring before the seams started spliting.

No, you've got the flat back so you'll be MUCH better off. Problem areas in my brothers Pulse 170 were the rounded back, the front crash pads, and the lower front corners of the front seats. Needed professional help in those areas. There's certain ways to heat and stretch vinyl over and around complex curves.

P.S., I like your ski pole setup! That rocks. Basically the same idea as the two Four Winns I've owned. I like the heavy single pole better than the tri-pod, much cleaner installation.

Thanks, I had to get that custom made last winter, the base was there but I had to raise it up to clear the fuel tank when I moved it to the back, I remember talking to you actually about moving my fuel tank to the original spot in the back because the PO moved it up front and it was killing my speed, I still have to get the tank modified to it's original size for more range, you can see if you look close in the pic it's notched on the back of the tank also so it would fit in the bow, I'm never more than a few miles from the cabin so I haven't done anything with it yet but it would be nice to have a bigger (original size) tank.

Are you also considering new cushion in the seats?

The vinyl is actually perfect on mine, it's more the inside that feels like it's deteriorated over time. Find myself always sitting on an extra seat cushion.

I was thinking of installing new insides this winter if it's not to difficult.

My cushions seem like their still nice and soft, hadn't planed on changing them but like everything on a boat, I can't rule out changing them until I tear it apart and see what I've got.;)

My Mom reupholsters old chairs as a hobby and I'm sure I'll be recruiting her to come help once I get in to it.:o

I just got back from a 4 hour drive in the rain to go get the boat from the lake so I can get started.

Of couse my side kick had to come for a ride :)

Here is the cracking in the rear seat bottom.

Here are a few pics of the underside of a few seat bottoms, wood looks pretty good for 21 years old.

If you look close you can still see the writing EL - 89 from the factory

Everything is soaked now, I got the heat and fan cranked in the garage and might go out and remove some side panels after the kids go to bed.

The under side of the seats in my trimate said tri -II-76 . But I used all those as patterns and I made a new set . Than took them in and had them covered turned out really good too. Yours will look fantastic with the checkmate made covers

So did the warden find out about your uprising yet? She might put you in solitary confinement with no conjugal visits

LMFAO, yeah I told her about the interior last night, we were out on a date night, I bought her supper and then took her to a bar to see the band that played at our wedding, got her drunk and convinced her to give me the go ahead and order it up she doesn't need to know that I placed the order a week ago:sssh:

Replacing the skins is a piece of cake. The SS staples are really important, so good that you got that covered. You also need to cover the foam with new poly as the old stuff will likely have rips or be deteriorated.

Thanks I never even thought, I've got some left over from when I insulated my garage, would that work or is there special stuff I should use?
