Re-power

I recently purchased a checkmate convincer 270 br with the 6.2L and have decided it's way under powered. With a 23 pitch mirage at roughly 4500 rpm's, we gps'ed at 45mph.. Id like to run in the 60's with comparably sized single engine boats, 25 outlaws, etc... Is a 496 gonna have enough hp/torque to accomplish this in my boat? Nada has it netted at 4000lbs dry weight! The reason I'm asking about a 496 is, I've found a couple different drop ins that are reasonably priced... Also, what is my 6.2L worth to recoup some funds after an upgrade? Less than 250 hrs.... Thanks

A 496,especialy a 496 h.o will wake your boat up.They are very reliable engines. Not sure what your engine is worth but you might check ebay to see what people are asking for them.

Yeah, throw a 496 in it, then throw a procharger on that. rumor has it, thats a pretty solid combo...:thumb:

That wouyld be fine, but I would look into the new 502 replacement motor. You are sure to have long time parts availabilty, and if I remember correctly MKHammer said no catalytic converter if it is replacing another motor.

prolly gonna be a winter time build...even if i could afford it, i'd never put a $15,000 motor in a $20,000 boat..

I agree. That 502 replacement motor is a lot of cash for the performance it offers. Me and Mike have talked in depth about it. If I was to stick $15k into a motor, it will be a 598 with about 750hp and ready for a procharger......... hummmmm what would that run in a 300 convincor.......;)
