throttle doesn't stay put

i was wondering if it is a cheap fix or if i should just get a new throttle. it will not maintain speed while skiing the throttle seems to slip, not only when skiing but all the time more at higher speeds, any sugestions

What kind of throttle is it? Many of the boxes have some kind of tension system on them. Usually there is a knob you tighten or loosen that increases or decreases the friction.
 
MOST QUICKSILVER/MERCURY CONTROLS HAVE A SMALL HOLE IN THE SIDE TO ADJUST TENSION. YOU SIMPLY PUT A SMALL SCREWDRIVER IN THE HOLE AND TURN CLOCKWISE TO TIGHTEN.
