    Pressure test should show it...Hopefully you don't have a hairline crack in the exhaust manifold.Good Luck

    loose steering

    I'm sure the tiller arm is loose.I,ve had to tighten two myself.If it's never been tightened before you'll have to get a kit from mercrusier.You drill two large holes in the upper transom housing and they give you access to the nut and bolt that need to be tightened.Its only gonna get worse..so...

    You could get a used set up on ebay...I bought a used Bravo one outdrive for $1000.I've seen most drives go between $1500-1800.00.I've seen complete gimbal set ups on there too for I think about the same money.The drive may actually slow the boat a little...but its much more durable & makes...

    Alpha drive with 430hp

    I had an 87 Enforcer with a 330hp/454 Alpha short shaft.That drive used to get hot so I put a shower on it,and thats only with 330hp.They are a great looking boat,I love em'...but with 430 hp you'ed have to be very gentle with it...AND DON"T RUN A FOUR BLADE...That'll snap something for sure...

    You don't have room for a big block in that thing.Also you mentioned that you bought an S/S lower unit.Not sure if that S/S lower will work with that upper. I had one and I believe the upper case was different too.An Alpha s/s would probably work great on that boat.All that engine work is great...

    Sounds like the steering arm that runs to the gimbal ring is loose.It can be tightened up.Tell me more about what it's doing.

    Grant makes some nice wheels.Polished aluminum spokes with a leather-like cover.Worked and felt great on My Enforcer...

    What Exhaust Would You Go With?

    You've got a tight engine compartment,so you have to be careful. Stainless Marine makes a nice Header Style manifold. The riser adjusts easily to many different angles.And in the Checkmates I've had the exhaust holes were NOT straight out the back of the boat,so you need to angle them.E bay is a...

    Enchanter vs. Vision

    The Vision will ride better. It has a deeper "V" and a little longer.Plus you'll love that Big Block.I'm sure the Vision will go 65+ mph.

    Happy Birthday Checkmate-Boats.com

    Had some problems at the beginning of the season.Tore up some hardware.Nothing that a couple $ grand $ couldn't fix. She's runnin' strong.Didn't go out the last couple weeks.$260.00 for a tank of gas in the boat and $95.00 for the truck was too much for me.I'll ride my Harley...$15.00 goes all day

    Rough water handling

    I think you need a bigger boat to satifiy your needs.Length makes a big difference on handling.
