New Guy considering an older Checkmate...

Matt, Hey man thanks so much for the heads up. Yeah those are some VERY nice boats but for one they are WAY far away and would probably cost as much to bring them here as they are asking and two I just had a little setback. One of the custom cabinet jobs I was counting on backed out on me at...

    Intrest in 1992 Starflite??

Man thats a sweet boat.... Just out of curiosity, how much room is there up underneath the front hull on these boats, I mean is there room for a mattress pad or something or is it just storage for skis etc... It sure looks cavernous from the outside but looks can be deceiving. I have never...

New Guy considering an older Checkmate...

That's what I figured...... Having owned and operated many boats as a youth with my family down in Florida I am used to the suction cup flushing of the outboard motor to flush out the salt water from the engines internals but I guess I figured that all of the boats we bought and operated...

New Guy considering an older Checkmate...

REALLY!! Man I cannot imagine doing that much work and having it come out so nice and then selling it. Jeez that boat looked amazing. Oh well we do what we want to do right. A Key West is a nice boat as well, seen lots of those down in florida when I used to live there. I think I MAY have...

New Guy considering an older Checkmate...

Damn that is a smoking deal.... I think for a boat of that caliber to go for that cheap is crazy. maybe there is something wrong with it but he did say he bought a newer one. Who knows maybe he just needs it gone. Honestly that is way too much boat for me I don't have a vehicle that can tow...

New Guy considering an older Checkmate...

agreed.... Please do not mistake my enthusiasm for blind ambition to get ANY boat. If I am to do all this work to arrive at a beautiful boat it will undoubtedly have to be a vessel that I have a LOT of affinity for as well as something that has the potential to become what I am after. I...

Thanks guys.... Honesty I am probably looking at more of a project boat then a beauty like that already finished. I'd love one tho and that looks like a good price. Never heard of an entertainer gonna have to check that one out. Liking the starliner and starflight so far best. Peace Pete

New Guy considering an older Checkmate...

thanks Rob.. Yeah honestly when we looked at that boat it did not seem nearly as long and sleek looking as the starliner looked in the pictures online. That also did not seem like a 21 foot boat. Not that it was not a nice looking boat but it was pretty beat up. Don't really mind doing some...

New Guy considering an older Checkmate...

HMmmmm.. Not entirely sure just yet. A lot will depend on what I get for my Nacra. However the word "CHEAP" comes to mind LOL... I fully expect to have to buy a project here and honestly my kids are anxious to BUILD something as a family. I want this boat to be a fun project for us as well...

New Guy considering an older Checkmate...

Willdo.... Like I said I still need to sell my Nacra. Or possibly find someone willing to trade my nacra for a suitable Checkmate project boat. Been reading thru the resto threads on these boats and it sounds like most of the 80's and earlier models will probably need new floors/transoms...

New Guy considering an older Checkmate...

Oh really... Like I said I am hoping to not have to do a complete restoration but ripping out the upholstery and sanding refinishing the boat I can do as well as some mild fiberglass/ epoxy work. Looking thru some of the restoration builds here now and there are quite a few serious projects...
