Seat Rebuild

Hi Guys,

The more I dig, the more I find to do:p.

I just took the front seats completely apart and to my surprise (not!) the seat bases are rotted.

To fix this, I was going to:

1. Cut the wood/fiberglass our at the edge of the seat back (front and back).
2. Cut a new piece of wood to fit in place
3. Seal new wood, then put it in place laying cloth from the seat back to the new base on both the front and the back

is this right?

How many layers of cloth are required to provide a good hold? 2-3?
Thanks

I feel your pain. I just found out my drivers seat is so rotten I could push my fingers through it. Also the molded foam is broken in a few spots. Not sure how I am going to fix it. I most likley will not post any pics, as I am sure it isnt going to be pretty. I would recomend getting the resin and cloth from Ebay, I went to Boaters World, spent WAAAAYYYYY to much.

I have the exact same seats, and the exact dame problem...
I just pulled them today, and one of the seat boxes was full of water to the very top!
The only thing holding it together was the fiberglass. I'm surprised at how sturdy it felt!

yes, 2 layers will seal it up and three will make it strong.

hey jon, see he said remove all the wood.:p

This is what I found after removing the cover :brickwall:. The seat had already been repaired once, making it impossible to remove all the wood. The repair job is actually turning out pretty nice, I will post a pew pics when it is done.

Nerd, yours are different than mine (and far worse). The fiberglass sides on mine are "formed" into the wood seats. I have removed all the wood from the fiberglass, cut the new seat pieces and am ready to start joining them back together. I am off on vaca for the next week so it will have to wait.

are you sure thats wood rot? or could it be a bad batch of Taco Bell???:rof:

Dont think it was Taco Bell, cold have been all that Draft Beer and Hot wings at Hooters.

Thanks Again

Thanks again guys for all the answers and all the info on this site. I finished the seats today (I got tired of waiting for warm weather and did it anyway:))

It was a lot easier than I though it was going to be (very messy). The grinding went easy, and I just made sure it was cleaned up nice and the fiberglass when right on.

Next step, the vinyl!
