Stupid Lower Unit Question

Duhhhh.

Did the motors come out of the factory with an anode there, a cover plate, or just that hole? Reason I'm asking is 'cause I'm looking for an engine and am trying to eliminate the ones where the seller isn't being totally up front about it's history.

Anode. They came with em from the factory. I posted a pic I found of mine (don't mind the shiny lower motor mount).

I've got to wonder why the anode would be gone from an engine which the seller is claiming has low hours and freshwater only use.

The L/U does look like it has very low hours. It probably fell out and he never noticed. You want to make sure you replace it if you buy it. Very important function.
